Power Rankings Week 9

Posted on: November 8, 2010 12:02 am
Every week, the #1 team I have always loses...Granted, I've only done this since Week 6....but I don't like trends. This week, the 6-1 Pats fell against the (not-so)-lowly Browns, Mangini outdueling Belichick. The Packers embarrassed the Cowboys, whose fundamentals may need more work. Vick returns and leads the Eagles over the Colts, the Falcons defeat the Bucs in a close game, and the Raiders are pretty legit. The Dolphins took their first loss away, and the NFC West continues to look like the worst division...period. An interesting week. Over .500 teams idle this week is the Titans
Here's the Rankings for Week 9:

#1 New York Giants (6-2)

#2 Baltimore Ravens (6-2)

#3 Atlanta Falcons (6-2)

#4 New York Jets (6-2)

#5 Green Bay Packers (6-3)

#6 Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2)*

#7 New Orleans Saints (6-3)

#8 Philadelphia Eagles (5-3)

#9 Indianapolis Colts (5-3)

#10 Oakland Raiders (5-4)

#11 New England Patriots (6-2)

#12 Chicago Bears (5-3)

#13 San Diego Chargers (4-5)

#14 Tennessee Titans (5-3)

#15 Cleveland Browns (3-5)

#16 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-3)

#17 Kansas City Chiefs (5-3)

#18 Jacksonville Jaguars (4-4)

#19 Houston Texans (4-4)

#20 Miami Dolphins (4-4)

#21 St. Louis Rams (4-4)

#22 Washington Redskins (4-4)

#23 Minnesota Vikings (3-5)

#24 Seattle Seahawks (4-4)

#25 San Fransisco 49ers (2-6)

#26 Arizona Cardinals (3-5)

#27 Denver Broncos (2-6)

#28 Cincinnati Bengals (2-5)*

#29 Buffalo Bills (0-8)

#30 Detroit Lions (2-6)

#31 Carolina Panthers (1-7)

#32 Dallas Cowboys (1-7)

*to play MNF (will update later)

I give the crown for now the New York Giants, but the Packers, Ravens, Falcons, Steelers, etc. are all very good as well. Perhaps I sent the Pats too low, but IDK what to feel about the Browns. Are they good? They beat the Saints and Pats...but then they suck the next game. So for now I'll say the Browns are not a top caliber team, and I love the Pats and did not love what I saw for now they are low. The Raiders get a top 10 spot for showing everyone they are good. I still don't completely believe they are top 5 material, however...we'll see. The Chargers and Raiders are both beginning to heat up, and the AFC West race will be down to the wire. The NFC South is stacked, so who knows will emerge victorious? Ugh, still can't get over that ugly Pats loss....ugh ugh ugh. Although Morris' fumble and Gronkowski really screwed us over in the beginning...

Power Rankings Week 9

So yeah, the reason Pats so low is because I hate the fact that they were pummeled by the Browns. Honestly, I think they are a top 10 team, but they did not act that way last game. Raiders I give the top 10 spot because I feel they are for real. And I try to factor in injuries and game performance of this week in the rankings. In overall rankings, I'd have a most likely different set of teams...However, I don't really believe in overall ratings. Ratings are overrated lol.

Power Rankings Week 9

Very wierd swings between rankings favoring the AFC one week and the NFC the next! Why do the annointed Jets struggle against the NFC North yet the Dolphins dumped the Pack and the Vikings? My guess is injuries. Every team ( more or less ) has a talented starting group. Every team has strengths and weeknesses in the modern NFL and if the injuries are concentrated on a team's strength ( i.e. Colts ) there's a dropoff. What I'm leading to is this, if you do a power ranking on a weekly basis you are using a team's performance data over it's talent/potential data. With the ultimate goal of predicting which teams will make the playoffs and advance the furthest you have to factor in key players returning from injury, strength of schedule AND talent/potential. Using these criteria I believe teams like the Packers , New Orleans, Oakland and Indy are all scheduled to recover players over the next couple of weeks that would push them up NOW in my rankings while teams like the Jets and Falcons don't appear to me that they are going to improve much. I believe the offensive firepower shown in the top NFC teams trumps the defensive strength of the AFC's top teams at this point. And just like last year, the teams scoring a lot of points advance the furthest in the post season.

Detroit is rank way to low! Yes they are 2-6, but they have lost so many close games and have been able to stay in games without their starting QB and other injured players, that they deserve to be rank higher than the Bengals, Broncos, the Bills, and 49s. Detroit is a young team with some decent talent on their roster, and when they start maturing, don't be surprised to see them as a contender and not a pretender.

Easily, the Patriots just got pummeled by Mangini! That's how. Yes, you have a better QB and that is it. Those "scatterbug" receivers are a joke, you have ZERO running game, Zach Miller is the best tight-end in the NFL, the special teams are better and the Raiders Defense is FARRRRRRRRRR superior to the Cheating Pats. Please don't bring up your coach. He has never won a damn thing without cheating. How "Great" was he when he was in Cleveland? Didn't have the film there...hmmmmmmmmm

Hope that helps!!!!! Tuck rule, my A$$.

How could you put the Raiders above the Patriots? The Patriots have a better record, better qb, stronger division, and the best coach.

Power Rankings Week 9

AFC has beat NFC 21 times so far this season.NFC has won 17.
AFC has been a better, but not by much. And truly, these stats are insignificant.  Saying that one conference is better than another is a silly argument. both play under the same rules and limitations.

JFi please explain yourself and your stats.

Last week both the Steelers and Jets, two of the best AFC teams, lost to the Saints and Packers, both NFC teams.
This week the Colts, again one of the top AFC teams, lost to the Eagles, an NFC team.
With the Falcons playing the Ravens it could very well be another elite NFC team beating an AFC team.

Help me understand exactly what you are talking about.
I'm truly interested in comprehending your logic.

For one. The Bills suck! why are they over the Lions who have been putting upnumbers and fighting hard allseason? Bills are Lame. And The Pats still deserveto be higher. Above the Raiders. Yea, the Raiders are doing alright this year. Better than the past 10 or so. But, still do not deserveto be higher than some of these teams. You make Prisco look perfect.

Okay, I am a die hard Raider fan but I think you should switch Oakland and the Pats. I think we are getting better and better but I dont think we are on that level just yet. Give it a couple more weeks. I think putting them at #11 is fair.
