Preseason Top 15 for 2010

  1. Alabama-The only reason is they deserve respect after winning the national title game
  2. Boise State-This may shut them up about how they don't get respect
  3. Iowa (My Pick for National Champion) -They are the real deal I think that they would have gone undefeated had Ricki Stanzi not gotten hurt.  Now great teams need to have back ups and they have one as their true freshman quarterback came in finished out the Northwestern game after no real game experience then the next week went to the Horseshoe and almost took down the mighty Buckeyes.  They also have 3 or four great smash-mouth and quick running backs.  So I really think as long as Stanzi doesn't choke and they stay healthy they will have an explosive offense.  They also have most of their exceptional defense coming back which includes this years Ndamukong Suh.
  4. TCU-I think that they now know what they need to compete and will come back strong
  5. Ohio State-The only hiccups that I see would be Iowa and Wisconsin in which they will lose to Iowa and beat Wisconsin
  6. Texas-I think that they will be about equal to what they were in the championship game without McCoy
  7. Nebraska-I think that as long as their defense doesn't suffer to much from the loss of Suh they will remain competitive
  8. Florida-This is a little high but i'm not sure what to expect from them
  9. Wisconsin-I think that they will be the number three team out of the Big Ten this year losing only to Ohio State and Iowa
  10. Oregon-I really don't know what to make of their off the field troubles yet
  11. Virginia Tech-I think that they will be the big sleeper of the year not getting a whole lot of respect but looking to bring a whole lot of power
  12. LSU-This would be my pick to take home the SEC title this year but I don't think they will be a match for Iowa
  13. Georgia Tech-I think they will remain a top 15 team after their loss to Iowa but I'm not sure how well the option will work this year
  14. North Carolina-They are one of the teams from the evolving ACC that will be good this year
  15. Oklahoma-They will be better this year as long as they stay healthy

One team that I excluded from this list is USC this is because they will not be able to participate in postseason play so I believe it is irrelevant how good they are

This is my top 15 I will be updating it throughout the year on my blog State of Iowa Sports or at State of Iowa Sports by Urbandale

Preseason Top 15 for 2010

Stanzi has right around a 1:1 int to td ratio.  I honestly cannot think of another qb in the nation that is more overrated by his own fans.

Preseason Top 15 for 2010

Why OSU will win the Iowa vs. OSU game.
According to this site:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20

10/writers/andy_staples/05/03/post-

spring/index.html
Iowa returning starters: 14
Ohio State returning starters: 16
Good for you Iowa, you are returning a lot of starters. NEWSFLASH: OSU IS RETURNING MORE! OSU returns 10 starters on offense and with TP at the helm you know we will put up points. We only have 6 starters returning on defense but I'm not worried about that because when was the last time OSU has not reloaded on D?
Jim Tressel finally let TP lose in the rose bowl game last season, and you all saw what happened. Now just imagine another year of offseason training and refinement for Pryor. Our offense is going to be scary good. Along with our defense.
BTW: the one starter OSU is not returning. a tight end. I think OSU will find a guy to replace him seeing as tight ends aren't really the most important in OSU's system.

Preseason Top 15 for 2010

Pretty close to most list i've seen, it's obvious you have an iowa bias but this year should be wide open for all 15 of those teams to make a run at the title game and Iowa has as good as shot as anyone. The SEC and Big XII are down a little compared to the last 5 years and that should open up oppurtunities for other conferences to receive a bid to the NC game. I like Bama to roll in a somewhat down SEC and Ohio St to return to the NC game and hopefully hold their own vs yet another SEC opponent. Iowa just never seems to put together a complete season from wire to wire, we'll have to wait and see. As for Miami they will be in the top 10 fairly easily all season playing in the ACC but might not truly be a top 10 team IMO. Football is coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Preseason Top 15 for 2010

I would really like to see these supposed rankings as Iowa has been in the Top 10 since the end of last year.  I also don't see how loosing a total of like 6 or 7 guys is really big.  This is especially true as they were mostly linemen which is what Iowa is known for.  If people would really explain to me how Iowa is different from what could have been without injuries a 12-0 season then do so because I really don't see why the hawks are that much worse.  And no it isn't Big Ten biased as I would rather it be dominated by the Big 12.  The only reason it would be biased is anti SEC bias.  SEC is in my opinion the second or third best conference.  This is because they don't have as many good teams so they can roll through conference play.  When you think that the Big 12 and Big Ten there are at least 6 teams that if spread out in different conferences they would be really good.  Whereas the SEC has maybe 4 or 5 of those teams.  Also I think a big reason that the SEC has been dominant in the BCS is their partnership with CBS who in turn is a big player in what games are televised.  So I really think that the BCS is a little biased, but that is my opinion.

Preseason Top 15 for 2010

Do I detect a little (no,make that a large) B10 bias here?   Well, as anyone who follows college FB knows, pre-season rankings may be fun for these blogs and sports talk shows, but really aren't worth much elsewhere.  Just a year ago. pre-season rankings all showed Ole Miss, USC & Oklahoma in the Top 10, while Iowa and Cincy were nowhere to be seen in the Top 25.

But I guess your rankings are as worthy as anyone's else.

WOW!! No hometeam love going on here. LOL  But I understand and appreciate your committment to your team. You should really look at the returning sgtartes as another has commented. UW comes back with all but I believe 2 players in thier combined offense and defense. OSU is in a pretty similar position. OSU and UW are very closely matched and turnovers decided the game last year. This year the game is at UW and a special start time at nigh. Can anyone say "homefield advantage"? UW is 4-5 in the last nine games with OSU. I am very leary about Iowa vs UW as Iowa seems to have thier number. Maybe, I hope, that number has come due. The Big 10 is very hard tro rank in order as on any given Saturday there are 9 teams that can beat each other. I guess we will see, but with the rigors of the Big Ten season and the loss of a good amount of starters, does Iowa have the bench to pick up the slack. I don't think so. Big Ten top three; UW and OSU tied for top then maybe Iowa.

Not a bad Preseason pick at all

I agree with this list roughly 90% of it. For SEC, it would most likely be LSU and Alabama, this time LSU should defeat Alabama because now it is in LSU hometown. I think you gave a little too much for Florida, they might be in the top 25, but in the double digits and the reason why is because of the departure of Tebow, some of the other players, and, the biggest question is whether their coach Urban Meyer might come back for another season. They also have to play Alabama in Alabama, as well as the overrated Florida State in their hometown (perhaps this time Florida State might defeat them). I have my favorite Boise State in number 2 also, hopefully to see them in the BCS championship bowl (I want them to destroy Virginia Tech in the opening game). I also see Iowa in the top 5, they have home court against Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Penn State, so it would be pitiful if they do not dominate the Big Ten (or the new Big 12). This season should be interesting, now that Florida is out of the way, and hoping Alabama choke during the regular season, there won't be any repeats.

Preseason Top 15 for 2010

HaHa I didn't mean to put the pf in there. I just think that having Masoli their starting QB kicked off the team is going to impact them awhole lot. And how will the new Qb deal with the expectations. I think there is enough of a question mark there to  have these teams teams switched in your rankings because Miami's o line is gonna kill people. just my opionion though.

What were you saying about Oregon don't understand what you mean.  Also for Miami this is preseason not what it will be at the end of the year.  I expect them to move up in the first few weeks.
