Defending Lebron

Posted on: June 9, 2011 11:54 am

OK, I haven’t been around for months as fortunately my real life has been filled with work and the lack of time to dedicate to pouring my opinions on sports onto paper.

Despite my absence from the sports blogging world, I still pay attention.  I watch each game and read each column whether filled with venom or objectivity alike.  There are few subjects however, which get my blood boiling, which require me to drop everything I’m doing and put the preverbal pen to paper to express my disbelief and disappointment in the so-called experts that cover sports.  LeBron James and the myths which surround him are one of those subjects.

While his “decision” making is questionable at best, Lebron James is not a quitter, overrated or a choke artist; he doesn’t shrink in the games biggest moments and he is certainly not responsible for the world’s fledgling economy.  Let’s take the obligatory look at the “decision”, was it one of the worst thought out ways to announce a free agency destination in the history of sports? Yes.  However, the intentions were noble, as Lebron James made more money for the Boys and Girls Club in one night than they make in an entire year.  Could he have simply written a check without the negative press?  Sure.  He has since realized the mistake and choose one of the biggest moments of his career (beatingBoston) to apologize for it.  As for the celebration the Heat had upon signing the Big 2 and Bosh, that wasn’t his choice, it was Pat Riley’s and that choice was made to excite a fan base which has previously not had something to get excited about.  Was nothing different than when the Heat signed Shaq and promised the city a title, there was no fuss then, shouldn’t be one now.

Quitters don’t score the final 25 points of the Eastern Conference Finals including 29 of the final 30 points and the game winner in OT as Lebron did against Detroit.  Quitters don’t take a team with so little talent that the minute he leaves they get the #1 pick in the draft, to the best record in the NBA for 2 consecutive seasons.  Quitters don’t randomly wake up in the middle of the night, and decide to go to the gym for a shoot around to get better and work on their games.  Quitters don’t sacrifice the spotlight and millions of dollars in salary to put themselves in a better position to win championships.  It’s funny because those same people claiming he took the easy way were clamoring for him to join their teams with equally loaded rosters in Chicago and New York --- the hypocrisy could fill another article but two guys that are the biggest culprit that come to mind are Michael Wilbon and Bill Simmons.  Quitters don’t dominate a series against the team that has owned the Eastern conference the last 4-5 years including ripping their hearts out in the 4th quarter in the decisive games of the series.  Quitters don’t dominate the leagues MVP and eliminate his team in 5 games.

Lebron James is the MVP in the NBA today and the most valuable player in the NBA since Michael Jordan.  And you know something, he will certainly go down as the best player in NBA history when his career is done and Scottie Pippen understands that now.  Know why?  Because Lebron, at the young age of 26 years old understands something that most casual fans don’t and that the sports experts get but are currently so filled with hate that they don’t want to admit.  Lebron James will do anything to win.  It means he will defend, he will defer and when needed, he will take over the end of games like no one else in the NBA is capable of doing.  Know why Kobe Bryant is sitting on 5 rings and not 6?  Because in the last finals he played with Shaq, he decided, it was time for his coming out party, and rather then defer to the big man, he put on a ball hogging display no one had seen in the finals in nearly a decade.

According to the website 82games.com know who the most “clutch” player in basketball was in 07-08? Lebron.  08-09, he was second; 09-10 he was first in one of the most dominating seasons by an NBA player in history --- and this season even while learning a new offense he was still ranked 4th.  When looking in the playoffs, his dominance in those situations is still better thanKobe or D-Wade but the problem is unless a guy scores 30 the general view is to dismiss everything else he does.

So here it is --- the best player in basketball will show up tonight --- he is going to put up a performance for the ages and the Miami Heat will end up winning the series in 6 games.  We will all be witnesses but then some moron will probably end up writing that Lebron didn’t pass the ball enough.  On second thought there is no defending Lebrob.

Defending Lebron

In my belief lebron is the best athlete in the nba nowhere near the best player, if he put more time into his game and worked on foot work and his post moves my beliefs might change. Having said that I am an absolute lebron hater the man is one of the most immature players in the league and he has no respect for any one but himself. he has gone his whole career with push over coaches who let him do whatever he wants just because he is lebron. There is no way to defend this guy, he abandoned the only city who loved him to come to another mans city to try and steal a championship. In doing this he only proved that he cant accomplish anything on his own. He had a horendous performance in the NBA finals, where he is never able to finish. His lack of drive to win showed when he decided to mock dirks sickness and then didnt show up during the game, he was the one that played like he was sick. Oh and there is no way Pat Riley was behind the big three celebration. If you paid attention to the finals, the man couldnt even stay awake when the crowd was going crazy, he doesnt have the energy to plan such a thing. Also lebron needs to be held accountable for what he said, he guaranteed 7 championships and then it was going to be easy, which one week later he had a post game comment where he stated no one said it was going to be easy. If lebron was smart enough to watch what he said he might have realized that he said it was going to be easy. And one more thing if any one said that they would have liked to see lebron as a knick disgusts me. I am a die hard knick fan and the thought of seeing this slacker who has had everything in his basketball career handed to him in a knick jersey made me hurl. He needs to take his talents back to high school and learn the proper ways to win and play the game.

P.S. Lebron has the nickname the king. What exactly is he the king of?

Defending Lebron

Lebron James is not a quitter, overrated or a choke artist
Did you watch the NBA Finals? Wade was asking the man to step up cuz Wade can't do it on his own. Got 2 points in the 4th at least 4 occassions in the NBA Finals.

he doesn’t shrink in the games biggest moments
Really? Read above response.

and he is certainly not responsible for the world’s fledgling economy
No, but he has a lot to do with Ohio's economy right now. LOL!

As for the celebration the had upon signing the Big 2 and Bosh, that wasn’t his choice, it was Pat Riley’s
Really? You give credit to Riley to? If Bosh would have did a sign and trade with Cleveland Lebron would still be there in a Cavs uniform. It wasn't based on Riley's decision. It was based on his friends decision. They made theirs first of course. Riley would have been fired if Bosh sign and traded to Cleveland. Lebron would have went back to Cleveland and Wade would be in Chicago. Riley would be trying to figure out he would spend the money with just one player making k money. LOL! That would have been something to see.

Was nothing different than when the Heat signed Shaq
You obviously have a bad memory because Shaq was traded from LA to Miami.

and promised the city a title, there was no fuss then, shouldn’t be one now
Shaq wasn't an ego maniac like Lebron is. Shaq was a very likeable guy. Shaq promised the team a championship. Lebron said he isn't gonna win 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and so on championships stating they are gonna be a dynasty. Saying it is gonna be easy. Obviously it wasn't and he deserves no praise for the crap he has done. Why defend a man who acts like he is better than everyone. Look how he treated Cleveland and his former teammates saying they would be nothing without him. Daniel Gibson himself was questioning his friendship with him.

Quitters don’t score the final 25 points of the Eastern Conference Finals including 29 of the final 30 points and the game winner in OT as Lebron did against Detroit
They call players like that ball hogs. To score 20+ points straight you would have to be making all the shots in like one quarter. LOL!

Quitters don’t take a team with so little talent that the minute he leaves they get the #1 pick in the draft, to the best record in the NBA for 2 consecutive seasons.
Little talent? Jamison and Shaq were all-stars. If it was so great during the regular season....what happened in the playoffs? Lebron quit his mission to bring a Championship to Cleveland.

Quitters don’t randomly wake up in the middle of the night, and decide to go to the gym for a shoot around to get better and work on their games
LOL! Something everybody has been telling LEbron to do is add the post game to his game. LOL!

.  Quitters don’t sacrifice the spotlight
You are kidding me right? Sacrifice spotlight? The guy had his own Decision special for goodness sakes. He called the teams 3 the Heatles.

and millions of dollars in salary to put themselves in a better position to win championships
The man stated he was financially able to retire that summer and not play another game. Would be good financially for the rest of his life. He also talked about Duncan taking a pay cut with the Spurs one year. Reporter asks: Will you take a pay cut? Lebron giggled and said: I didn't say that. He took the max dollar he could have. Took more change than Wade.

It’s funny because those same people claiming he took the easy way were clamoring for him to join their teams with equally loaded rosters in Chicago and New York.
A.You just stated he took a better position to win championships. That is the easy way out. B.Those teams weren't equally loaded with talent. Wade is a top 5 NBA player and arguably top 3. No player on any team can say they have that. Bosh is better than Boozer, but Amare is better than Bosh.

Quitters don’t dominate a series against the team that has owned the Eastern conference the last 4-5 years including ripping their hearts out in the 4th quarter in the decisive games of the series.
Are you talking about Boston Celtics? Only 4 seasons together and 2 Eastern Conference titles. The other two belong to Orlando and Miami.

Quitters don’t dominate the leagues MVP and eliminate his team in 5 games.
LOL! Lebron had help on the defensive end if Rose beat him. Most of the time they double teamed the MVP. No other Bulls player could hit a shot which ultimately ended their season. They overachieved by a huge margin last season. Talking about the Bulls of course.

Lebron James is the MVP in the NBA today
That is news to me because Rose is the current reigning MVP unless you wanna go by NBA Finals MVP which is Dirk.

Lebron James will do anything to win
He certainly didn't prove that in the Finals series. I do agree on some parts not caring who he hurts while he makes that decision. Than asks why people keep questioning him about the "decision". The guy doesn't get it at all.

It means he will defend, he will defer and when needed, he will take over the end of games like no one else in the NBA is capable of doing
He took over games in the 4th alright. LOL!  Check NBA Finals....wasn't very good in +/-

Know why is sitting on 5 rings and not 6?  Because in the last finals he played with Shaq, he decided, it was time for his coming out party, and rather then defer to the big man, he put on a ball hogging display no one had seen in the finals in nearly a decade.
Are you crazy? LOL! Kobe has more rings than Shaq. Kobe was po at Shaq for always coming to training camp out of shape. His work ethic was terrible. Kobe wasn't the reason Lakers lost this year. He was the only reason they got out of the 1st round. LOL! Gasol stunk big time in the playoffs. A lot of off the court issues. Artest going soft after winning his NBA championship. Lamar worried about his stupid reality show. Gasol's wife in a fight with Kobe's apparently. Things add up....point guard position was destroyed last season.

All the crap you wrote were nonsense.

Defending Lebron

As a knicks fan, yeah it would have been cool to see him in orange in blue at the garden but in all honesty I would have preferred that he stay in cleveland more than anything. The guys that spend their whole careers in one place, championship or not, are the most respected of athletes in my eyes. Guys that don't go chasing the money, (or rings in the case of lebron). I don't think I ever rooted for a team to fail more in any sport than I did the Heat this year and seeing them falter in the championship was the icing on the cake, (as I'm sure it was for many NBA fans). Is lebron one of the best players, statistically, of our generation? yes, there is no arguing that, but the second he left cleveland in search for a ring, my respect, as well as my hopes of him ever getting one were flushed down the toilet forever. I wish nothing but failure and disappointment upon him, and I know that's terrible to say but let's face it, he kinda deserves it.

Defending Lebron

Cant defend him. He tried to take the easy way out to win a title. He is not the guy you want with the ball in the closing seconds he has proved that time and time again. He choked so bad in the finals he couldnt make a lay up. The think the reason he went to Miami is he knows he needs someone to do it for him, thats why he walked around in the 4th quarter waiting for Wade to make it happen. His only game winning shot was with cleveland and he was i shocked as everyone else that it went in. A meaningless game of course. I hope he never wins a ring. Expecially after the comments he made after the finals were over. Dont get me wrong hes a great player. But when you look at some of the things he has done, and some of the things he has said, Arrogant at best. But i guess he can laugh all the way to the bank. Thats pretty much what he meant right?

Defending Lebron

Lebron James will do anything to win.

That is pretty funny!  e will do anything to win but succeed, that's the difference between James and players like Russell, Magic, Bird, Jordan, Kobe... and the also-ran LeBron James.  His "apology" just did not cut it... All you had to do was listen to his press conference telling all of us regular guys to go back to our miserable lives (not a quote, but the point is there) while he goes back to his... and you know his ego far exceeds both his talent and will to win!

Defending Lebron

Please clutch only matters when it matters and winning one of 82 regular season games does not count.  He is so far away from even being a great player, i cant fathom you considering greatest of all time.  While his taking cleveland to the finals was an accomplishment the east was so weak that year u and 4 of your friends might have made a run.  Besides what he did with a sub par supporting cast is washed out by what he failed to do with the best supporting cast in the past 30 years.  The King is Dead James was overrated from the start it is only now we learn what a complete arrogant ass he is

He is an amazing player, yet he does not have that "killer instinct" that Kobe and Michael had.  Needs to quit being compared to Michael and focus on the legacy as himself LeBron James will be.  The titles will come if not this year then many in years to follow.  Once the first one comes and all this ridicule will be past him, look out there will be a dynasty in Miami if the team stays hungry and together.
