Giants not calling up Bumgarner

The Giants need to call up a pitcher to start on Tuesday, and Madison Bumgarner, the 2007 top draft pick who's 6-1 with a 3.13 ERA at Triple-A Fresno, would seem an obvious choice.
The Giants, however, are going with Joe Martinez, as reported today in the San Francisco Chronicle . Martinez (5-2, 3.08 for Fresno) isn't exactly chopped liver and is coming off a complete game victory.
The Giants say the decision had nothing to do with Bumgarner having a meltdown and getting tossed from his last start (he also was suspended because he chucked the ball into center field on his way out, but that suspension runs out Tuesday).
"He's throwing the ball well down there," manager Bruce Bochy said. "We don't go on one game or one start, even with our position players. That didn't come into play at all. We happened to need pitching the night Joe was scheduled to start (in Fresno), so we scratched him to give us some coverage."
Maybe the ejection didn't come into play, but at the same time, perhaps the Giants didn't want to send the wrong message to the 20-year-old Bumgarner by rewarding him after his burst of bad behavior.
