X-rays negative for more Rose bats

Pete Rose Prompted by a report on last week, two Cincinnati baseball collectors had their Pete Rose bats X-rayed to see if they were corked. The results to Bob Crotty's Mizuno PR4192 and Mark Fugate's Mizuno ATHL showed nothing but wood in the bats.

Crotty, who owns Green Diamond Gallery in Cincinnati, said it was common knowledge in collecting circles that there were some corked Rose bats out there, especially in the model PR4192, which Rose used for hits No. 4,000-4,192. Crotty's particular bat shows significant use and is on display at his private gallery alongside a bat used by Ty Cobb. After Deadspin's story, Crotty decided to have his bat X-rayed.

"I simply wanted to," Crotty wrote in an e-mail with, "to add to the story and offer more evidence or examples, regardless of X-ray results."

Rose himself visited Green Diamond Gallery within hours of the X-ray results, Crotty said and told him he never used corked bats, "wearing a Reds uniform, anyway."

Fugate's ATHL model was used following hit No. 4,192.

The X-rays were taken at Evendale Surgery Center in Cincinnati.

Crotty estimates Rose used 30 different model PR4192 bats and is in negotiations to buy another PR4192.

"In the end, add this evidence to previous evidence and it all adds up to the Pete brand as we have all come too familiar with -- drama and controversy along with 'did he or didn't he' continue to be a major part of the Pete Rose brand," Crotty wrote.

Agreed. I wasn't aware that one of the prerequisites for the HOF was being a saint. If that were the case, we'd be looking at a bunch of empty shelves when we visit the HOF.

HA ha ha!  You do realize that you have to be voted into the HOF.... Last i checked fans are pretty pissed at Barry and Clemens, so i wouldnt take that bet.  Pete rose and you may, but Bonds will not get in before or after Rose, im betting on Never.

sorry bubster, I stand corrected. Wow, I did not realize that players who don't make the cut in the first 15 tries are automatically eligible for veterans committee. You point on the percentages is still correct. Anyone who ever receives less than 5% of the votes is permenantly ineligible. But the Vets committee thing is good news for guys like Tommy John, Bert Blyleven..and Rose.

If he does then MLB MUST put Shoeless Joe in the HOF.  After all, he was innocent, Rose not so much.  What would really be screwed up is if the HOF allows Sosa, Bonds, McGwire, or Alex Rodridguez in, dead or alive.

ksudodgers, u are wrong.  Every player with 10 or more years of major-league experience who has not been active in the previous 20 years, and is not on Major League Baseball's ineligible list, is eligible for Veterans Committee consideration. In the past, players who did not receive a certain percentage of the votes on a BBWAA ballot were permanently ineligible for Hall of Fame consideration. Rose must first be reinstated, then he would need the votes from the Veterans Comm. He doesnt have to wait 15 years.

Well the Rose in the HOF debate can be tabled for the next 15 years. He is not eligible again until he is eligible to be voted in by the veterans committee. This past vote in January was his last shot at being voted in by the BBWAA. Will he get in? I am pretty sure he will, at some point. For right now, it does not matter. Even if Selig pardons him tomorrow, he cannot get in until 2024. Plain simple fact.

Really nothing more to say to this. It's been said. So, why am I posting? Just wanted to say that WAY TOO many cheaters, crooks, drug users, and all around bad guys are in Cooperstown not to have Pete in there as well. Yeah, he bet on baseball AFTER the playing days, but he IS the ALL TIME Hits leader. It was funny how the sprts writers said...All Pete has to do is admit he bet on baseball and we'll put him in" Then, he did, and THEN, they said.."OMG, he didn't seem, NO" Amazing huh?
