X-rays negative for more Rose bats

Pete Rose Prompted by a report on last week, two Cincinnati baseball collectors had their Pete Rose bats X-rayed to see if they were corked. The results to Bob Crotty's Mizuno PR4192 and Mark Fugate's Mizuno ATHL showed nothing but wood in the bats.

Crotty, who owns Green Diamond Gallery in Cincinnati, said it was common knowledge in collecting circles that there were some corked Rose bats out there, especially in the model PR4192, which Rose used for hits No. 4,000-4,192. Crotty's particular bat shows significant use and is on display at his private gallery alongside a bat used by Ty Cobb. After Deadspin's story, Crotty decided to have his bat X-rayed.

"I simply wanted to," Crotty wrote in an e-mail with, "to add to the story and offer more evidence or examples, regardless of X-ray results."

Rose himself visited Green Diamond Gallery within hours of the X-ray results, Crotty said and told him he never used corked bats, "wearing a Reds uniform, anyway."

Fugate's ATHL model was used following hit No. 4,192.

The X-rays were taken at Evendale Surgery Center in Cincinnati.

Crotty estimates Rose used 30 different model PR4192 bats and is in negotiations to buy another PR4192.

"In the end, add this evidence to previous evidence and it all adds up to the Pete brand as we have all come too familiar with -- drama and controversy along with 'did he or didn't he' continue to be a major part of the Pete Rose brand," Crotty wrote.

Rose belongs in the HOF period. And GreatFan I'm not sure what your talking about. I think you mistakenly thought you were writing in your daily know the one you keep about panties and metrosexuals.......instead of CBS Sportsline.

did you say Rose didn't cheat, but Aaron, Mantle, Ruth and Maris did?  You are way out of line.  Rose did cheat - he cheated baseball to its very core.  The reason he is out of baseball is that he agreed to a lifetime ban when faced with the evidence that he bet on baseball.  NOBODY has ever said or will ever say that Rose's on-field accomplishments aren't HOF worthy.  But when he bet on baseball, he gave up being in baseball again.  Joe Jackson is someone who should be in the HOF - he, too, was banned from baseball for life.  And now that he has died, he should be put in the HOF.  That will send a message to all you Rose sycophants - when Rose dies, he's in!

Take a long look at Pete Rose. Do you see anything wrong with him? Does anything jump out at you? It's obvious what is wrong with Pete Rose. He is white. And therefore he "ain't right". Had Rose been black, at worst he would have been in the HOF by the second ballot, and anybody who would have dared vote against him would have been scourged and declared a racist. After his playing days, Orlando Cepeda was convicted of drug smuggling and sentenced to prison. Cepeda had several brushes with the law after his retirement, and admittedly used drugs during his playing days. Do you know where Cepeda is today? Cooperstown. However, Rose supporters can take comfort in the fact that Pete will in fact be admitted to the HOF. It's going to happen, and this is why. Rose will be a "bone" tossed to pacify whitey, just before they put Barry Bonds into the HOF. Rose will either go in right before, or right after Bonds. I'm guessing after Bonds. Bet on it.

It's lots of fun for me to see that most of you girls have your panties  in a knot because...god forbid a corked bat.  You all must  have just graduated for girls high school.   Corked bats were common (though illegal) throughout the time Rose played.  It was not uncommon for the bat to come apart during an at bat and the umpire to toss the batter.   You gals ask your boyfriends and unless they are the metroman type they can explain it to you.  Now go out there and do the right thing (but don't think you know much about baseball or its history.

GREAT POST MAN!!!!!! Pete Rose is baseball. Growing up and till this day he's my favorite player. I wore #14 in little league, high school, college even now in my softball league. The main goal is to win in anything you do. That's in life, sport and anything else. He's the biggest winner in sport's history.  He broke the golden rule and should have been punished. But what happens if McSteroid gets in or A-Roid, Bonds, Clemens,Pettite,Pudge,Palmario,Sosa. Then Pete should be in too. He didn't cheat Mantle,Ruth,Maris and Aaron but these men did.My whole youth of baseball greats were doped up. I feel they should let him in the HOF . His stats some will never be touched with a 20foot pole will live forever. He didn't cheat as a player as this article proves. But the cheaters I mentioned before did. They roided out to collect records and money. All this guy did was win, win, win and win. Listen to Joe Morgan on Sunday Night Baseball when he talks about the HIT KING. Nothing but LOVE. Look at what happened when they intoduced baseballs greatest living player Pete Rose got the biggest applause. So all I got to say is LET PETE IN, LET PETE IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Baseball could use him right now. What a ball player!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the thing about Pete Rose, sure he is not exactly the type of person that you want your kids to emulate but as a player he was great.  He will go down as one of the greatest to ever play the game as he should.  He also should be in the HOF as a player.  Yes he bet on baseball but as a manager and not as a player.  His contributions as a player are more than enough to assure him a spot in the HOF.  There are several scumbags in the HOF and they were pathetic human beings but great baseball players.  The HOF is all about honoring the best players in history and Pete Rose is definitely on of the best ever.

There is one statistic in Pete Rose's career that is really the only one that matters.  And to me it's staggering and it is also the MOST meaningful.  Whether Rose experimented with a corked bat, took uppers and bet on the Reds as their manager is nearly irrelevant --- as this stuff was so common place in the 60s and 70s as to almost be a non-issue.   Whether Rose is ever in the HOF (that has god-knows how many of his items in it) is also irrelevant.   The ONE statistic and the MOST important statistic that no one can ever take from Rose is this --- he has played in the MOST winning baseball games of anyone in the HISTORY of baseball.   THE MOST WINNING GAMES OF EVERYONE IN BASEBALL HISTORY.   That means he came to work everyday, worked his ass off to improve his game.  It means he was a great teammate -- and pushed his teammates to play the game the right way and he also made them better players.  The guy was stubborn as an old mule --- but he Never ever gave up, gave in or admitted defeat.   These guys are so rare --- any player hates to play against a guy like that ,, but loves him as a teammate.  So next time you see a player jog to 1B on a ground ball to SS then think of Rose.

Ok folks lets do some math.  Pete Rose played for about 20 years and for 15 of those years was an everyday player.  Some seasons he played all 162 games.  Let's just say he played 140 games for 20 years and average 4 at bats a game.  So we have 11200 at bats give or take.  Now if he broke ONE percent of those bats we are talking about 112 bats.  Do you not think that an umpire would have found one of those bats to be corked.  When Sammy did it he said he had a corked bat that he kept for Batting Practice and forgot to take it back to the club house.  Now I know we all know all of these players did what it took to win at any cost.  But after looking at the numbers my question is one bat was corked and not any others.  That seems odd.  My bet is that Rose probably used again do the math over 1000 bats in his career.  Him something does not see right and it's the one corked bat.  This issue needs to be over.
