Bobby Valentine Bobby Valentine will not be the Marlins' next manager, Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman reports via Twitter .

Since Fredi Gonzalez was fired last week, it has been assumed Valentine was the guy. Valentine had flown to South Florida on Friday to interview and by all accounts, was going to join the Marlins when they returned from their upcoming three-game road trip to Puerto Rico. Earlier this week Valentine pulled out of the running for the Orioles' manager position.

Interim manager Edwin Rodriguez and Diamondbacks third-base coach Bo Porter have also reportedly interviewed for the job.

UPDATE: Palm Beach Post Marlins writer Joe Capozzi texted Valentine asking him if he's still in the running for the Marlins job, and Valentine responded: "I have no idea."

UPDATE: MLB.com's Joe Frisaro texted Valentine and asked if he was out of the running for the Marlins job, Valentine responded, "News to me."

Blake, I don't think Luis Gonzalez is ready to manage yet, but he is certainly a guy that would be an excellent bench coach and provide much leadership to this squad which is what they serious ly lack right now. Another excellent choice would be Ryne Sandberg because he can bring that attitude that the Marlins need in that dugout right now.

They are still in the interview process according to MLB sources and a decision can't be made until the Marlins submit the list of minority's interviewed per MLB League rules. It will all come down to Bobby Valentine, Edwin Rodriguez, and another manager. There is clearly a third option the Marlins have not mentioned.
This week Rodriguez has to prove he can manage and he gets that opportunity against division rivals Mets and Braves. Marlins need to take 2/3 from both series. There is still the matter of what to do with Ricky Nolasco and Nate Robertson. Both coukld be dealt by the AS Game or shortly after.

Barry Bonds anyone? LMAO!

On a more serious note....are you really serious about Jeff Kent? I would feel VERY sorry for anyone that had to be managed by that ego!

Honestly I would like to see the Marlins to do the unexpected interviewing recently retired players for the job who obviously have a extreme knowledge towards the game of baseball and love for it as well. One of those players would be Nomar Garciaparra. Nomar spent the majority of his career playing shortstop for the RedSox but also played any other positions for the Cubs, Dodgers, and A's. Nomar has showed plenty of love towards the sport and has great technique that can be taught.

Another option would be Craig Biggio. By far one of the most intelligent players to play baseball and can inspire the young Marlin team to play with heart.

Luis Gonzalez would be my first choice honestly for this position. He not only already knows the majority of the team but also has the experience needed for the job. He was a brilliant baseball player and would excel as a coach.

Those are my top 3 choices the Manager role for the Marlins and if none of them work out we can always just return to plan B. JACK MCKEON!

Other Recipients include: Cliff Floyd, Mike Piazza, Barry Larkin, Mike Mussina, Al Leiter, Jeff Kent, Cal Ripken Jr., and if we continue to take our time we can get Chipper Jones next year.

where does this say he is out of the running? He (Valentine) stated it was news to him, and he had no idea about if he was out. Yet the headline says he is out. Which is it?
