The Mets won't get starter John Maine back this season, as the team announced today that the right-hander underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery Friday to remove scar tissue.

Maine opened the season in the Mets rotation, but hadn't pitched in the majors since May 20. He was diagnosed with tendinitis and has had several setbacks trying to get back on the mound.

The team said Maine should be ready to start spring training.
