Roy Oswalt UPDATE : Oswalt has agreed to go to Philly, and the Astros will receive J.A. Happ and two minor-leaguers. Click here for the full story .

All Roy Oswalt has to do is say OK and he'll be a Phillie, according to a report by Mark Berman of FOX 26 Sports in Houston .

Berman says the Astros and Phillies have agreed not only on the players involved, but also the amount of money involved in the deal.

Oswalt asked to be traded earlier this season, so it's assumed he'll waive his no-trade clause to join Philadelphia.

If Oswalt moves before his scheduled start against the Brewers on Friday, he will leave Texas one victory shy of tying Joe Niekro's record for victories as an Astro (144).

This season he is 6-12 with a 3.42 ERA. He is owed roughly $5 million for the rest of this season, plus $16 million next season. He also has a club option for $16 million in 2012 with a buyout of $2 million.

Earlier in the day, it was reported the Cardinals were out of the running for Oswalt and the Dodgers were unlikely to swing a deal.

your an absolute moron. dam you guys kill me. maybe he s been on a crappy team for five years. with all the smack you guys talk, i have to say i cant wait for yalls team to stink again. which sucks to say. the phillies are one of my favorite teams to watch. roy o will play out his contract with yall as well as halladay or hammels. hell even halladay hs eight losses. and he s been with yall all year. yall have been relying on a 50 year old for wins and your doggin roy. im actually starting to think you philly fans dont deserve him. maybe he should just go to atlanta. you know, help them extend their lead in the east. im quite certain they wouldnt bitch about good fortune.

I would put Hamels in that category too (right there with Oswalt).  Throw out the last start this week and he's been awesome the last month.

you guys are killin me. oswalt is a total standup guy who has always kept his mouth shut. you wont be talkin like this by the end of the season. stories in the media get twisted. i remember people talking about andy pettite being so stuck up. well i know andy. went to school with him. he s quiet, not stuck up. he was always very shy, but the nicest guy you could ever know. i was excited to hear that oswalt was goin to philly. they are one of my favorite teams to watch and i would love to see oswalt back in the playoffs again. lord knows we wont be in houston again for a while. but trust me, this guy can pitch anywhere and win. reporters or no reporters. he preferred st louis because it is close to where he grew up. he s not downing the phillies. christ drayton mcclain made a deal with oswalt that he would buy roy a tractor if the team made it to the world series, which they did, and thus he did. he is a simple guy. you guys need to stop acting like your getting a guy like terrell owens(again), and expect someone between hammels and halladay. good, quiet and consistently competitive, without any bullshit. i didnt know which one of you guys to reply to, so i just picked you and rolled. yall would be better with cliff lee, but dont sweat it. this move should definately solidify yall as the front runners to go back to the series. enjoy roy.

If this deal gets completed, it could be potentially disastrous for the Phillies starting pitching staff.  It has been widely reported that Oswalt has been getting cortisone shots in his back, up to at least 3 times already.  If they trade Happ and Oswalt winds up getting hurt, where does that leave the Phillies?  Halladay, Hamels, Blanton, Kendrick and no number 5 pitcher.  In my opinion, Blanton is way too inconsistent and the same would go for Kendrick.  They would also have to go out and find another pitcher or 2 to be able to compete in the playoffs.  I think this is a really bad move for the Phillies.  I think they should have went after a 3rd or 4th starting pitcher and shored up the bullpen.  Let us Phillies fans hope this does not turn out to be similar to the Garcia deal.  Anyone remember that.  He was hurt when the Phillies got him and one 1 game and was horrendous.  All that for $10+ Million.

Amaro didnt let Lee go they offered Lee's agent 3 yrs 20 mil a year. The agent said no they want a 5 year deal. Gillick has a policy to not sign for more than 3 years we get burned by it. Look how many 5 year deals burned us in the past present and near future. Lee's agent would not budge off of a 5 year deal so we swiftly dealt him away for some draft picks. We signed Balnton because that deal went sour and we needed a pitcher. Lee's agent never told Lee about the 3 year deal that halliday actually signed for as well. Lee was unaware of any deal or trade until it was too late. It was not the phillies managements fault, they have to deal with the agent. The agent blew this one not Amaro or Lee. i am not sure if Lee still has the same agent. Oh and to someone elses comment that Oswalt is no Lee?? WTF are you talking about? He has been one of the most dominating pitchers of the decade

143-82 3.24 ERA for past 10 years nice numbers for Oswalt

99-56 3.81 ERA past 9 years for Lee

One more season and 44 more wins for the Ace in Oswalt and a half a run era lower...........

Dont get me wrong I love Cliff Lee but HE IS NO OSWALT!

As a Phillies fan I've been watching this closely. Now, if you're saying that career wise he's better, you'd be correct, but for this season, Cole Hamels has been amazing. His record is so so, but he hasn't had a whole lot of help. I was looking oer the numbers recently, and Cole has left a game with a lead something like 5/6 times this year where the team got him a no decision because they gave up the lead. Poor dude can't catch a break.

You must not know anything about the Wizard of O (Oswalt).  He is a steady leader in the clubhouse and is anything but whiny.  He asked to be traded due to the fact that our owner Drayton McLane was bent on not spending the money to make the descent improvements of the tieam to put a contender on the field.  As for Oswalt being past his prime you will see shortly that he's still got it.  His problem this year has been run support.  Out of his 12 losses 8 of them have been when he gave up 2 runs or less and got either 1 or 0 runs.  Sure he has had a bad game recently but every pitcher has an off game here or there including your stud Halladay.

I have to say in the beginning of the year when I heard Oswalt wanted to be traded I was hoping that the Phillies would make every attempt to get him.  I miss Cliff and was sad to see him go.  But I know Phillies organization would be a great fit for any player wanting to win and wanting to remember what it is like to have fun and enjoy the game we all love in baseball.  Oswalt I hope you agree to come join Fighten Phillies.  This is our family and the door is open for you, don't let the oppurtunity pass.  The Phillies are fighten and will make post season, with your addition I beleive the Phillies make it back to the World Series and WIN !!!!!
