A woman who claimed Mets pitcher Johan Santana raped her in October has filed a civil suit against Santana, the New York Daily News reports .
The woman, who is identified as "Jane Doe", claims she became pregnant after their encounter and had a miscarriage and lost the child. Santana has acknowledge he had sex with the woman on a Fort Myers, Fla., golf course, but claimed it was consensual.
"I had thought I was going to play tennis with a man who up to that point had been nothing but friendly to me and my kids," the woman said in a statement. "After 10 months of emotional turmoil from the assault, losing the baby and watching him go unprosecuted, I have realized this difficult step is the only way Mr. Santana will be held accountable."
The Daily News says a Lee County Sheriff's Department spokesman told the paper that deceives dropped the case in December.
"It looks like a 'he said, she said' type of thing," Tony Schall told the paper. "There wasn't enough evidence to prove a lack of consent."
