Vin Scully Could the greatest voice in baseball be silencing himself?

The Dodgers' Vin Scully is expected to make an announcement about his future before today's Dodgers-Reds game at Dodger Stadium.

"I know what I am going to do and I would imagine the Dodgers will arrange things so an announcement can be made before [Sunday's] game," Scully told the Los Angeles Times ' T.J. Simers . "I'd like to do that so everyone hears it at the same time. It's the proper way to do it."

Scully will be 83 before the start of the 2011 season.

Last season Scully hinted he might retire following the 2010 season and didn't want a farewell tour.

Anyone who has been on a baseball beat -- for a newspaper, website or radio -- can tell you the travel can be a grind and it can get lonely. Scully's alluded to that in the past, so it's very possible he'll put down the microphone after this season. Selfishly, I'd love to hear him another season (through the beauty of XM radio and the MLB At-Bat app on my iPhone) but I understand if anyone's earned the right to call it a career, it's Scully, the best ever in his business.
