The Yankees officially won't be getting any bullpen help down the stretch from Damaso Marte and Alfredo Aceves, as manager Joe Girardi announced Wednesday that both are done for the year. In neither case is the news a surprise.
Marte has missed a good chunk of the season with shoulder issues that will probably lead to surgery, so he could be out part of next season as well. He went on the disabled list July 7, and recently had a setback in his rehab. The shoulder has been bothering him since last season.
Aceves made a big splash in his first full season last year, winning 10 games in relief and posting a 3.54 ERA. He got off to a good start again this season, going 3-0 with a 3.00 in 10 appearances, before being sidelined by a bulging disk in his back. He had made several rehab appearances, reaching Triple-A, but aggravated the injury and was scratched from a scheduled appearance September 2.
