Omar Infante
There's a lot of talk about whether Carlos Gonzalez, Joey Votto or Albert Pujols can jump up and claim the Triple Crown in the National League, but keep an eye on the Braves' Omar Infante.

The red-hot infielder has become the Braves' regular second baseman, and has a chance of finishing with the 502 plate appearances required to qualify for the batting title. Entering play Thursday, Infante had a .342 average, two points ahead of qualified leader Gonzalez, and had 407 plate appearances, leaving him 95 short with 22 games left on Atlanta's schedule. That's 4.3 plate appearances per game, not impossible if he starts every game.

If he keeps hitting the way he has been -- he's batting .373 in the past 28 days -- he could even win the batting title without getting 502 appearances. If a player falls short, baseball credits him with hitless at-bats up to the needed number. If, for instance, he finished with 495 plate appearances but an 0-for-7 would still leave him with the lead, he would be awarded the title. Tony Gwynn won the NL batting title in 1996 with only 498 plate appearances.

Accually after checking on plate appearences he does have 407. with 21 games left and with 4 Abs a game he will finish with 491. But I still say when he has to face 2 more of the cards aces and 3 of the Phils aces twice going hitless in 6 games is a real possibility. then he won't go 2 for 4 in the rest and then you would have to add 0 for 11 on top of that. It just doesn't seem possible to get the batting title. I will say he has had an all star type year Just saying that I can't see him keeping up the pace of the last 28 days in the next 21 games. Don't mean to bring out the haters  With all that said I also don't see a triple crown winner anyway Albert will get Hrs but no way will get batting title, JUST SAYING

boy figures to get a bunch of garbage from a braves fan. Speaking of unintelligent It is pretty straight froward but you got some crazy translation with your math. if there are 22 games left and he goes hitless in 6 of those than how does that equate to half his at bats?  I guess you would figure him to go on a 22 straight game hit streak.  Really this whole argument is a waste of time because he can not get the at bats needed anyway This post is wrong according to braves site Says he has 380 ABs with 130 hits = .342 avg even with 4 Abs a game he only will have 464 ABs so not only will your Braves be out of it so will the great Infante

Figures this post is from a Phillies Fan. If he was batting .400 in june i could see you making that statement "Keeping up that pace" But, it's Sept. and he's Batting .342 i think and has 22 games left. That's a short time to "Keep up that pace"! Omar has been consistent the whole year at the plate and I would give him a better then 75% chance to..... "keep up that pace". A half dozen Ofer's.... you figure he'll go without a hit in almost 50% of the games left? 40 at bats without a Hit? You are serious? If Pujols and Cargo and Votto go 0 for 40 their Avg. would plummet the same amount per at bat..... How do you figure it wouldn't affect them as much as Omar? If you can't say something Intelligent and all you want to do is berate a Player having a Fine year then keep it to yourself..... Charlie thought he was a ALL Star!!!

I don't see him keeping up that pace since he'll face quite a few top national league pichers here in the next few weeks. A half dozen o fers will affect his average more than the front runners. I just don't see it happening. If he does it would really be an accomplishment and I'd be surprised.
