Morneau unlikely to play again in 2010

Posted on: September 24, 2010 2:15 pm
Justin Morneau Justin Morneau is unlikely to return to the Twins in time for the regular season, and the postseason is doubtful as well.

"I don't see how it can possibly happen for him," manager Ron Gardenhire told Phil Mackey of ESPN 1500 . Morneau suffered a concussion earlier this season, last playing July 7 of a season shaping up to be MVP-caliber.

In 348 plate appearances, Morneau had 18 home runs and a .345/.437/.618 line anchoring the middle of the Twins' order.

Gardenhire did say Morneau has been improving as of late, but time is simply running out.

The Twins have moved forward by slotting Michael Cuddyer in first base, shifting from right field. Jason Kubel and Delmon Young have seen increased playing time in the outfield as well while Jim Thome adds to his Hall of Fame career by receiving the bulk of starts at designated hitter.

Morneau unlikely to play again in 2010

So, some of you fools think Morneau is just milking the injury to get out of that sickening pennant run?

Great logic.

It's probably killing him(and Nathan)to sit and watch.

I know he played with basically a broken back.  And he didn't do anything.  Either way it's still his fault.  He shoulda been more careful.  If you do things the right way you will never get hurt.

Morneau unlikely to play again in 2010

Those who are questioning Morneau's injury are probably suffering from a severe concussion yourselves.  He played last year for nearly 3 weeks with a stress fracture in his back?  What else do you wan't.  Broken back, sounds painful to me.  Anyways spew hate haters, it's what you do best.  Mommy is calling, time to clean your rooms.

You are all unbelieveably stupid.  Apparently the only way I'm not insulted is if I agree with the consensus.  Well the consensus voted for Obama, and look who ended up being right.  ME.  I will never go with the consensus unless I actually agree.  And the fact is that I don't agree.  And fyi you wouldn't be able to do anything to me.  You wouldn't even get one shot in on me.  Anyway, it's kinda sad that you are talking about giving me a concussion on a sports website.  Again I don't like players who hinder our teams' progress.  Again Sidney Rice shoulda got surgery before he did and again Morneau is milking his injury.  And yes I would rather have Konerko.  I would also rather have Miguel Cabrera.  I'd rather have Miggy than any first baseman in the AL.  I'm a MN fan, but that doesn't mean I'm blind.  If I see a better player on another team I'll easily admit it.  Just like if I had a choice between Joe Mauer and Albert Pujols I'd choose Pujols 208843129438912 times over.  Why?  Because he's way more productive.  Doesn't mean I'm not a MN fan.  I'm just not blind.

How Can You Criticize Him?

Concussions are not a matter of pain tolerance.  There are tests you must pass to even be allowed on the field.  PCS is one of the most frustrating injuries you can go through and has nothing to do with toughness.  You can be the toughest guy in the world but you can't play if you can't pass the concussion tests and/or focus on a baseball without puking!

Well, "Doctor" Larson, enlighten us. Have YOU ever had a concussion? Let alone several, like Morneau has? Medical FACT is, the more you have, the worse they get. If you've never had the misfortune of having one, don't go talking out of your a$$ about something you don't have the first clue about. Since you say you are a Minnesota sports fan, perhaps you should look at the case of Pierre-Marc Bouchard of the Wild. 18 months since his last concussion and he's finally thinking he might get A CHANCE to play this season. But let me guess, in your esteemed opinion, he's a pansy and needs to suck it up, right? And quit acting like you're the only person who is bothered by Minnesota sports teams relative ability to get it done when it counts. That falls on a lot more shoulders than just one person's medical issues. At this juncture, I don't know if I'd want Morneau back this season if he isn't at 100% anyways. It's been proven time and time again when a team gets to a certain chemistry without a big player, then when the said player comes back it upsets the apple cart. I'd say let it ride, play with what we have and let Morneau hopefully come back next spring at 100% and with a thicker helmet that won't fall off...

Morneau unlikely to play again in 2010

larson, you are an ignorant #$&(#&*$#.  You must be sitting behind a desk somewhere and never played sports or recieved a blow to the head, if you want one..  Please tell me where to meet you in the cities and I'll give you about 3 or 4 concussions in the next few years and lets see how quick you are to get back into the ring.

And Konerko didnt take a blow to the head.  HE GOT A FAT LIP.  "now thats a gamer"    jesus H CHRIST...
