Morneau unlikely to play again in 2010

Posted on: September 24, 2010 2:15 pm

Justin Morneau Justin Morneau is unlikely to return to the Twins in time for the regular season, and the postseason is doubtful as well.

"I don't see how it can possibly happen for him," manager Ron Gardenhire told Phil Mackey of ESPN 1500 . Morneau suffered a concussion earlier this season, last playing July 7 of a season shaping up to be MVP-caliber.

In 348 plate appearances, Morneau had 18 home runs and a .345/.437/.618 line anchoring the middle of the Twins' order.

Gardenhire did say Morneau has been improving as of late, but time is simply running out.

The Twins have moved forward by slotting Michael Cuddyer in first base, shifting from right field. Jason Kubel and Delmon Young have seen increased playing time in the outfield as well while Jim Thome adds to his Hall of Fame career by receiving the bulk of starts at designated hitter.

Morneau unlikely to play again in 2010

Every year he sucks in September.  I think he's evolved to using late season injuries as an excuse for his september suckyness.

I'm sure he feels 99% fine, and that he has since august. But until he FEELS 100% fine, which he won't for a long time because he milks everything, he won't even think about coming back. Like I said before, PANSY, get off our team. Even when you do play a whole season you suck in September/crunch time anyway.

Last year was the first year that he missed the end of the year. He was out becuase of a fractured bone in his back. The year before that he played in all 163 games. Including this season over the last 5 years he has averaged 27 homers and 105 RBIs while batting .298.

This is just sad, as good as the Twins have been in the 2nd half, they would certainly have been better with Morneau in the lineup.  Plus he was killing it on my fantasy team...
