Felix Hernandez was denied in his bid to get one more start and bolster his Cy Young credentials, then had to watch Friday as Jered Weaver of the Angels struck out four to pass Hernandez for the American League lead by one.

Reporters asked Mariners interim manager Daren Brown on Saturday whether he'd consider at least getting Hernandez into Sunday's game long enough to get a couple of strikeouts and reclaim the lead.

"Felix said he was going to spend the day in the bullpen," Brown said, "and the first time I go to the pen, he's going to be running in."
