Brewers to hire Brenly?

Take this with a grain of salt, but a radio reporter in Milwaukee is reporting via Twitter that Bob Brenly is "close to agreeing" to become the Brewers' next manager. As far as I know, Brenly's name has not been connected to the job since Ken Macha was let go, though he interviewed the last time the job was open two years ago.

Brenly managed the Diamondbacks for 3 1/2 seasons, winning the World Series in his first season in 2001. Since being fired in 2004, he's been out of the game, working as an announcer for the Cubs. This would seem like an odd choice for the Brewers, particularly since they haven't had time to conduct a lot of interviews.

UPDATE: Brewers reporter Adam McCalvy quotes Brewers GM Doug Melvin saying on the radio that "Unless somebody else has been doing the hiring process, [the Brenly story is] not true." So, looks like we need that grain of salt.

Brewers to hire Brenly?

Exactly right.  Unless they get a #1 starter in exchange for Prince Fielder this off-season, it will be another long summer in Milwaukee.

Whoever the Brewers get they need to be able to get some pitching or they will last about as long a Macha
