Looks like the Braves may go ahead and tell everyone what they already know -- Fredi Gonzalez could be introduced as the successor to Bobby Cox today.
The Braves announced they've scheduled "a major announcement" for 2:15 p.m. Eastern today after Bobby Cox's already scheduled press conference.
UPDATE: David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution tweets the Braves will indeed announce Gonzalez at 2:15.
UPDATE: Surprising nobody, the Braves introduced Gonzalez as their manager.
Gonzalez told reporters he had no qualms about replacing Cox, "somebody's got to do it," he said .
As for his coaching staff, Terry Pendleton will stay and serve as the first-base coach and infield coordinator. Pitching coach Roger McDowell, third-base coach Brian Snitker and bullpen coach Eddie Perez will stay on with Gonzalez. First-base coach Glenn Hubbard and bench coach Chino Cadahia will not return. Gonzalez said he is "looking into" the hitting coach spot. Pendleton had been the team's hitting coach.
