Girardi could get three-year deal

Joe Girardi
A couple of months ago, there were visions of Joe Girardi coming off another Yankees championship as a free agent and being tempted by several other high-profile managing jobs.

But the picture looks a lot different now. Girardi didn't earn another ring, and the jobs to which his name had been attached are now gone. The Cubs hired interim coach Mike Quade. The Dodgers hired Don Mattingly. The Cardinals re-upped Tony La Russa.

The New York Post says there will be no announcement of a contract extension for Girardi when he and general manager Brian Cashman are scheduled for a media post mortem of the season at Yankee Stadium. But that deal could be struck soon, and is likely to be for three years.

Also in question are the futures of several Yankees coaches, not because the Yankees don't want them back but because they could draw interest elsewhere. Hitting coach Kevin Long has had suitors in the past, and Dave Eiland could be recruited by several teams in the market for a pitching coach. Bench coach Tony Pena is supposedly a candidate for the Marlins' managerial job, but told the Post on Sunday he hadn't been contacted by the team, though they might just be giving Pena a cooling off period after the Yankees' ouster.

Girardi could get three-year deal

Paul O'Neal is what we need as a manager in New York. Someone to kick stuff and rattle the players.

There isn't a manager on this planet that can rattle players that are making that kind of money.  These are guaranteed contracts for ridiculous money, the players can't lose.   As a matter of fact all it takes is a couple of great players making huge dollars to complain about a coach and it's game over ... not for the players, but the coach is history.

A well deserved raise.....in 3 years he brought us a championship and he puts his players in positions to win. He knows them well....knows when he can get more and when a guy is maxed out.

Girardi could get three-year deal

If the Yankees (or their fans) don't want Joe Girardi, the Mets should sign him.  The Yankees will never be happy with whomever is there, but the Mets really need leadership and Girardi would be great.  In fact, Brian Cashman don't extend Girardi's contract.   Fire him and  hire any Yankee fan to  manage the team.  Those Yankee fans always know what's the best thing for their team.

Obviously, you are someone that barely follows baseball to criticize Jeter. The guy has been the heart and soul of the team since 1996 and leads the team in so many offensive categories. He did not bat as well as he has in the past but his defense was still excellent. Name me a better short stop over the last decade? thought so....you should get the facts before you open your big mouth!!!! If you don't like the Yankees or Jeter that is one thing but you definitely can't diminish his career and the championship rings (5). Lifetime 300 plus hitter and has excelled in the playoffs, very clutch performer. You need to do some research pal!!!!

Yeah baby sign him on for another 3 years! Firing the pitching coach is a joke. First thing the Yankees need to do is get rid of that punch and judy hitter you have named Jeter! The guy is terrible as he ages. Platoon him if you have to but at least try and get a journey-man middle relief pitcher for this stiff. Cracks me up when  Yankee fans say he is a first ballot HOF player. Really!  And i suppose Babe Ruth was fairly good in his prime too? Get over it. You are done.
