Fans didn't help Yankees' bid for Lee

Kristen Lee was going to be key to the Yankees landing Cliff Lee this winter. Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia, who has pretty much been openly courting his old Indians teammate, emphasizes how close his wife, Amber, is with Kristen (that's Kristen on the upper right, with Amber next to her, in a photo courtesy of the Plain Dealer ).

Sabathia said that during the Rangers' last regular-season series in New York, he made sure Amber took Kristen out to see the sights and talk up the advantages of living in the Big Apple.

But it doesn't sound like Kristen Lee is much of a Yankees fan after her experience at Yankee Stadium during the ALCS. She told Bob Nightengale of USA Today that while sitting in the visiting family section, she was taunted, cursed, had beer thrown at her and was even spit at from the section above.

"The fans did not do good things in my heart," Kristen says. "When people are staring at you, and saying horrible things, it's hard not to take it personal."

Kristen Lee also talked about how much she has enjoyed having her husband just a 40-minute flight from the family's Little Rock, Arkansas, home.

"Cliff can fit in anywhere, but it makes my life a lot easier," she said. "We've never had a short commute before. Having a direct flight from Little Rock is great."

Sure, it's easy to say Lee will simply go to the highest bidder. But if you don't think his wife will have some input on the matter, well, I'm going to guess you're probably not married.

UPDATE: Lee addressed the report today during his media availability. He was asked if it would affect his free agency decision.

""=No. I don't know the guy that did it. It could be anyone," Lee told reporters . "Who knows? Who cares? They're at home right now."

knucklenilan, You must be married to a fatty too. The John thing is silly, My wife is 12 years younger than me and keeps herself together, after our second kid we have been to the gym together 4 to 5 times a week like clock work and we both have real jobs. If I was a well-paid jock I would expect my wife to keep herself in shape. Seriously what do these women do besides sit around anyway and spent their guys money. Get of your lazy ass and go to the gym and put down the bacon bits. And what is up with the guy that has a link to Cliff Lees family photo from 2 years ago before she was in weight watchers, that is kinda stalker-like if youy ask me. So what I am swallow and hate on fat azz women.

The treatment that Kristen Lee received at Yankee Stadium while sitting with het husband's teammates family members is similar to the treatment received by visiting fans in Yankee Stadium.  Fans and family of opposing teams have historically been mistreated when going to games against the Yankees.  This phenomenon is the worst in Yankee stadium and is also seen when a visiting fan goes to see a games with the Red Sox, Phillies and Cardinals.  The constant here with all teams is they are well established teams that have been located in their cities for quite some time and have more than enthusiatic fans.  As an unbiased fan I have been to games where the aforementioned teams play one another and fights break out, beer is thrown and the people act like animals.  This hatred can even be seen in exhibition games every year as these fans interact in Florida.  If Cliff Lee is smart he will keep himself and his wife clear of Yankee stadium as he has seen the true fan in that stadium.  If Cliff  was to go thru a rough spell and not pitch well it would not be unusual to see fans take it out on his wife and kids.

I do find it funny that most people who are having a go at Cliff Lee's wife based on her appearance, are most likely the kind of guys that are on the computer hiding from their own wives. Finding an outlet in a sports page as opposed to hopping into bed with their own partner.

To all the haters..Cliff Lee has more money than you. He's more famous than you. He's more successful than you. Cliff Lee v You = Lee win.
Oh, and to the guy talking about picking up at the bar..i'm pretty sure Cliff wouldn't trade his life for that. Some people don't like being that lippy drunk sleaze at the bar that always seems to get smacked over, by men and women.

rumor has it he is coming back to philly

Because Vomiting on children is much more classy right??? Look all fans have their goon fan bases, Lee will either do 1 of 2 things, go where the money/years are, or 2 stay with Texas for years and less money... I can see either outcome... honestly I don't see the Yankees giving him a long contract (which he wants) but a big one sure... we'll see how it pans out in the offseason...

For those who are saying that Kristen is big in that picture - that's what happens when you're pregnant.  Here's a link to an older picture, before she had the second boy.

Also, it's good to know that many posters here are such studs that they can get supermodels for wives and/or girlfriends.

What???   Other fans in another stadium are complete aholes too????   And I thought from most of the posters on these boards it was always Phillies fans.  Please,  you all have crappy fans that ruin the image for the majority of the fan base and this includes the New York Stankies.  They like to think they are a different class of fan, but they arent.  Awww, you wont be buying Lee next year either, aint that a shame.  At least piggy or not, she wasnt treated badly by Philly fans.
