Fans didn't help Yankees' bid for Lee

Kristen Lee was going to be key to the Yankees landing Cliff Lee this winter. Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia, who has pretty much been openly courting his old Indians teammate, emphasizes how close his wife, Amber, is with Kristen (that's Kristen on the upper right, with Amber next to her, in a photo courtesy of the Plain Dealer ).

Sabathia said that during the Rangers' last regular-season series in New York, he made sure Amber took Kristen out to see the sights and talk up the advantages of living in the Big Apple.

But it doesn't sound like Kristen Lee is much of a Yankees fan after her experience at Yankee Stadium during the ALCS. She told Bob Nightengale of USA Today that while sitting in the visiting family section, she was taunted, cursed, had beer thrown at her and was even spit at from the section above.

"The fans did not do good things in my heart," Kristen says. "When people are staring at you, and saying horrible things, it's hard not to take it personal."

Kristen Lee also talked about how much she has enjoyed having her husband just a 40-minute flight from the family's Little Rock, Arkansas, home.

"Cliff can fit in anywhere, but it makes my life a lot easier," she said. "We've never had a short commute before. Having a direct flight from Little Rock is great."

Sure, it's easy to say Lee will simply go to the highest bidder. But if you don't think his wife will have some input on the matter, well, I'm going to guess you're probably not married.

UPDATE: Lee addressed the report today during his media availability. He was asked if it would affect his free agency decision.

""=No. I don't know the guy that did it. It could be anyone," Lee told reporters . "Who knows? Who cares? They're at home right now."

Everyone knows Cliff Lee isn't signing with the Yankees. He wants to play for a winner...not a loser. I'm guessing that he signs with the Braves or even Dodgers. Definitely not  the Yankees since we all know how tough/rough the fans can get even for players who DO play for the Yankees.

This could get interesting. The union will scream that Lee has to accept the highest offer, but what if he and his wife really like the situation he's in now? Amnd what does he say if he wins the World Series with Texas, then signs with the Yankees? "I want to pitch for a winner"?

Thank you to Yankee fans for doing a solid for MLB. The worst thing for MLB would be for Lee to go to NY or Boston or some other "big" market team. It's great to see 2 unlikely teams playing in the World Series. Boring would be seeing Yanks and Phils going back and forth every year. Thanks again! Laughing

Wow.  Okay, if I had anything to do with cbs sports, I would ban each inappropriate comment and record your IP addresses and just keep the vast majority of comments away from decent people.  Her appearance has nothing to do with anything.  I am sure that some of your wifes, girlfiends, boyfriends or whatever you choose to have relationships with are not eye pleasing to every other person you know.  The topic of this story is how ill-behaved fans treated a guest to their stadium.  A fan  or family member from an opposing team should be able to attend a game at any venue, but because of alcohol and the accepted anti-social behavior of some, have given certain venues or cities a bad name.

I feel bad that Cliff Lee's wife was treated in such a manner.  The Yankee ownership should apologize and then figure out what went wrong so to prevent it from happening again.  Above and beyond that, every team, in every sport should also evaulate security for family members of both teams, because the family members should never be penalized for attending a sporting event.

I know it won't happen but I personally would like to see him a Phillie again next season. What a starting rotation that would be,  Holliday, Oswalt, Lee and Hamels. I know, no chance but it is something to wish for.

Nothing new about this.  Yankee fans, and not all of them...but many are very classless, especially in defeat.  I don't blame Kristin for speaking out against the fans, and I think she should definitely influence her husband to go elsewhere, where the fans are complete losers like many Yankees fans.

Back in 2006, when my Detroit Tigers beat the Yankees in the ALDS, you should haveheard the idiot fans at our stadium.  Even after losing, many of the Yankee fans were causing trouble and trying to pick verbal fights with anyone they could find.

Yankee fans, again, not all of them, but most have no manner and no class.

LOL I laughed at the last post.  You obviously don't know how expensive it is to live in the tri state not to mention how much it costs to attend a Yankee game.  Classless, NOPE...Broke,NOPE.......
