No surgery for Mauer

The knee injury that hobbled Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer late in the season will not require surgery, Twins general manager Bill Smith confirmed in an email to Kelly Thesier of MLB.com.
Mauer missed nine games in late September after appearing to tweak his knee running out a ground ball. He returned in time for the postseason and went 3-for-12 as the Twins were swept by the Yankees. Mauer batted .327 during the regular season.
