The Yankees, including general manager Brian Cashman, are flying to Arkansas to meet with Cliff Lee. MLB Trade Rumors first reported the trip, while Joel Sherman of the New York Post added the fact Cashman would be in the group.

The Yankees had already contacted Lee's agent minutes after the start of free agency on Sunday at midnight.

New York is seen as the favorite for the free-agent pitcher.

Are the Mets considering signing The Situation to play 1st base? He would be an upgrade, but would seek to sign for more than $5Mil.

Meh, the Yankees can win with or without Cliff Lee. The only thing I'd be concerned about with him is the number of years he wants since he will be 33 next year.  If he wants something crazy like 6-7 years I hope Cashman says "enjoy the Texas heat, we're gonna pass".

Is it me or the Yankees just seem desperate for that big name player. Yeah Lees good but do ya really think hell mkae much more of a difference?.. Yeah might win 5 more games next..and thats a maybe hes hittable and that stadium wont hold all those balls hit in the outfield.  there problem isnt really starting pitching, its the bullpen...

I love all the Yankee bashing. It's so easy to talk about all the prospects that failed yet no one mentions the prospects that have had extremely successful careers. Let's start with Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Robinson Cano, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettite, and Phillips Hughes who are all still on the team and contributing. The list continues on and on with players who have had productive careers on other teams.
People like to complain about the money the Yankees spend on players but that's because the Steinbrenner's chooses to spend their money to make the team better and more exciting. There are many owners out there who are worth more and have more money than the Steinbrenner's. They just choose to not care about the product they put out on the field every night.

Lee would be making a mistake to sign in NY.  The spotlight of NY is the only draw right now.  With a slowing A-Rod on third and NY about to overpay for an even slower Jeter the holes on the left side of the diamond are much bigger than some of the other suitors.

Dont give me any BS about Jeter and Gold Golves..They are jokes and it has been know as such everysince Palmerio won one after playing 1st base for 50-ish games and the rest at DH

I used to think it was ridiculous for all these players to be making so much money playing baseball, but then "The Situation" from Jersey Shore is making 5 million this year and I threw all logic out the window. These guys play a long series 6 days a week and if you can throw like Lee or hit like A-Rod, then pay them more than The Situation.

Hopefully this is another player that the Yankees buy whose best days are already behind him.

Jesus Montero? Yea we've seen how other "Top Yankees Prospect" have done in the past. How did Drew Henson, Wily Mo Pena, Dioner Navarro, Nick Johnson, etc etc do? Joba is no where near the player the media built him up to be. The jury is still out on Austin Jackson, he of 150+ strikeouts and no power numbers. Before you Yankee fanboys start touting Jesus as the next Mike Piazza, maybe let him play a season at the major league level.
