Report: 'Zero' chance Werth stays in Philly

Jayson Werth Not all national writers are the same when it comes to certain teams. All national baseball writers have to live somewhere and start somewhere. That's why when it comes to Phillies stuff, if I hear it from ESPN's Jayson Stark, I take it to the bank.

Stark talked to a "Phillies source" on the odds Philadelphia can bring back Jayson Werth. The answer? "No chance. None. Zero."

Stark says it's not the money as much as the years, as the Phillies don't want to be tied down to Werth in his advanced years. Werth will turn 32 next season and will be looking for a long-term contract, five or six years. With Domonic Brown coming, Philadelphia doesn't what to be hamstrung with an aging Werth.

An interesting addition, Stark throws Jeff Francoeur as a name out there as a stop-gap solution for Philly.

32 year old hitter and he wants a 5-6 year contract. Is he high? He didn't even hit 300 last season on a high-calibre team like the phillies

Have you been smoking something???  They are not gonna even talk to Crawford and my high school team wouldn't even trade for Raul Ibanez.

Report: 'Zero' chance Werth stays in Philly

Yea like anyone in Philly didnt know this the beginning of the 2009 season. I like Werth but he will want a longterm contract for lots of money, I would do the same and let him go instead of having him good for 2 seasons and paying for him on 3-4 declining bad ones. No one wants to be stuck with an old player tied down with a boatload contract. Whatever team picks him up will be a contender obviously, he wont sign with a crap franchise. Phillies smart in letting him go, Werth smart for leaving. Werth will be missed here, Amaro is brilliant, the money saved and earned will payoff in the end for Werth and the Phillies. I think Werth is the National League all time playoff homer run hitter. Nice to have on your resume'. Thanks Werth and GO PHILLIES!!

Surfs up: Let it go Phils fans. The guy strikes out 150-170 times a year and hits a crisp .170  with RISP. He'd want 12-15 million a year or more. WERTHLESS is correct - His numbers for RISP were really bad last year, but saying it your way makes it look like those are his lfetime numbers, instead of just last years numbers. Pretty tough to knock anyone in when the people in front of you aren't hitting.

Its a shame but if Stark says it chances are it is true.If it is the case than they should go with Brown he is their future and a heckuva player in his own right.

Surprised no one has mentioned Werth's, uh, "encounters" with Chase Utley's wife as being a factor in him not returning to Philly. I would think that might have caused some tension in the locker room.

Fransisco and Brown will platoon in RF until dbrown is ready for full time play . Phillies are gonna make a MAJOR move i know that for a fact but dont know what area it will be . My thinking is crawford to play LF and trade ibanez ( they will play alil of his salary )

Hello CLEVELAND are you listening!!!

Why would Philly sign Francoeur?? Domonic Brown is to be the starter.

Francoeur couldn't start in Seattle or for the Toledo Mudhens he's lucky to be in the majors at all.

Werth would be a great addition to Cleveland who is lacking any power. He may have to move to left Choo is too awesome to move from right.
