The Rangers have announced the signing of 34-year-old Japanese free agent pitcher Yoshinori Tateyama, who will compete for a bullpen job. The Dallas Morning News reports it's a one-year, major-league deal with two option years.
The right-hander has played 12 years for the Nippon Ham Fighters, with a 35-43 record, 3.43 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. He reportedly throws a screwball, which (unless I'm missing somebody) is currently extinct in the major leagues.
