Giants re-sign Burrell

Pat Burrell The Giants may have re-signed outfielder Pat Burrell, Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News writes .

Baggarly writes it's a "discounted" one-year deal.

Burrell was released by the Rays in May after a horrible start (following a horrible 2009), Burrell signed with the Giants and jump-started his career. In 96 games with the Giants in the regular season, he hit .266/.364/.509 with 18 home runs and 51 RBI.

He struggled in the playoffs, managing just six hits in 42 at-bats and was 0-for-13 in the World Series, striking out 11 times, walking twice.

UPDATE: Burrell's deal is worth $1 million plus incentives, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal (via Twitter ). He apparently took less to stay in San francisco.

Giants re-sign Burrell

A good pinch hitter gets his bat on the ball and puts the ball in play.  Maybe Burrell takes on the roll of Uribe in the order with the low average high rbi output.  The problem i have here is it kinda halts younger guys like Thomas Neal and Brandon Belt a little bit.  We even have Mark Derosa coming back.  I just feel like the outfield is getting a little overcrowded and none of these guys will be able to get into a good groove.  I would like to see some of our younger guys come in and help out, especially when it was obvious most, if not all, the other teams didnt even want Burrell.

Giants re-sign Burrell

Ross is going to arbitration, he's not going anywhere. Keeping Burrell was a great move, especially at a low cost, low commitment---he will be underated in the casual fan's eyes because of a bad late-postseason, but looking at his work as a whole---he hits 20-25 hr's, works the count, and gives you professional ab's. Worst case scenario: one of the best PH's in the league.

Giants re-sign Burrell

Resigning Burrell is a the first (and hopefully only bad move) by the Giants this offseason.   He had a few clutch hits for the Giants down the stretch but was a total hindrance in the playoffs.   Even his big HR against PHI turned out to mean nothing as they squandered the game away.   I'm hopeful that the Giants can figure out a way to turn a middle reliever (and potentially minor leager) into Jason Bartlett.   Tejada signing is fine as I feel he's an upgrade over Uribe and gives you a viable (albeit Uribe-esque defender) at SS with flexibility to play 3B if it turns out that Panda will never be the 08-09 Panda that burst onto the scene.   Ultimately Bartlett would make Tejada the super-utility guy, which is about what he should be at this point in his career - and at least he doesn't look so inept at the plate with the exorbinate strike-out rate that Uribe brings with him.

But back to Burrell ... Huff earned the resigning and can play 1B and LF, and with the AAA prospect Brandon Belt capable of the same position swap, Burrell is kind of a man without a position.   Add in the fact that you may or may not get Mark DeRosa back???

Do you now send Cody Ross packing?   You are stuck with Rowand's ridiculous contract (which was equally ridiculous when he signed it)...  Torres is clearly entrenched at CF, and Schierholtz should remain on the roster to protect the defense against any of these guys (Huff, Burrell, potentially Belt) in the OF late in games...

Too bad we're stuck with Zito and Rowand contracts, or a serious acquisition might have been more probable ... can we say Carl Crawford?   Bartlett would be great, but he costs players - Crawford could be had for less than the sum of Rowand and Zito!

Sabean needs to hurry up and get Ross locked up.  If we go into the season with rowand Burrell and Torres in the outfield because he was too stupid to bring Ross back I will be furious.  Sabean is proving once again that he prefers over the hill guys who are ineffective rather than younger guys who have some upside.  Next thing you know we are going to trade for the defensively inept Bartlett and give up some decent young guys... I cant stand the way Sabean works sometimes.

Giants re-sign Burrell

Burrell's inconsistencies just kill a ballclub.  Poor move here.  Giants still have Ross and Rowand from the right side and should not have made this move.  11 strikeouts in 13 at bats in the WC?  He never should have been used during the Series as bad as he was going.  Lukcy we had the pitching to make up for his weak ass hitting.

The Zito? What's that? You mean Barry Zito? His contract makes him untradeable. As for Uribe, maybe you missed the news that he signed with the team from L.A. that shall remain nameless. Pablo needs to take his weight seriously, or he'll be in Fresno, or somewhere else. Rowand is another guy with a bad contract so, the Giants are pretty much stuck with him. You could do worse than him as a 4th or 5th OF. Unfortunately, his price tag pays him like a starter. I like that they only signed Tejada for a year at his age. If they trade for Bartlett they can use Tejada like they did Uribe, moving him between SS and 3B. It'd be nice if they could ever find that one big bat for the middle of the lineup but, maybe Posey will grow into that, like Piazza and Ivan Rodriguez when they were younger. All in all, it's a similar team, so far, to this season. We'll see how they look come Spring Training.

No way should we dump Pablo...he had 1 bad year, after a great year in 2009, those things happen to the best players in the game...and about burrell id take my chances with him rather then Nate or some minor leaguer, Belt will be up in mid june to platoon with burrell, Giants win 100 games this year with our staff and a decent offense

The Giants had grest pitching that carried them, But Burrell strikesout to much for my liking,I would have let him go,should have somebody at AAA that could replace him. kinda wasting a rostor spot.

Giants re-sign Burrell

Giants are doing what they need to do to keep this team together. Getting Pat the Bat back will keep this team sold in the locker room. Plus another guy who can go yard at any time is always nice. GO GIANTS!!
