Adrian Gonzalez The Red Sox have indeed agreed to a deal to bring Adrian Gonzalez to Boston pending a physical, multiple outlets are reporting.

Several sources indicate the Padres and Red Sox have agreed to a deal that would send the first baseman to Boston, while the North County Times ' Dan Hayes reports no major-league players will be headed to San Diego. However, because Gonzalez is negotiating a contract extension, the Padres may receive a better group of prospects in return. notes Red Sox top prospect, right-hander Casey Kelly, is likely in the deal, while shortstop Jose Iglesias and first baseman Anthony Rizzo would be the two other possibilities.

If Boston does land Gonzalez, Kevin Youkilis would move to third base. Last month he told he was preparing during the offseason to play third base this season.

The Red Sox may not be done adding players, either. The team is still wooing outfielders Carl Crawford and Jayson Werth.

UPDATE: Gordon Edes of tweets that Padres will receive Kelly, Rizzo and outfielder Reymond Fuentes in exchange for Gonzalez.

UPDATE: On Twitter , Kelly reacts thusly:

Just waking up beautiful day in sarasota about to get some breakfast. Can't worry about things that are out of your control

UPDATE: Ken Rosenthal tweets that the Red Sox will also send a player to be named to the Padres. That could be a minor prospect of their choosing, or it could be a draft pick from the 2010 draft.

UPDATE: The Boston Globe reports Gonzalez has been at Massachusetts General Hospital this morning undergoing his physical and MRIs on his shoulder.

Reports: Gonzalez shipping up to Boston

you're the one who knows what the pills are, not me, and if you had half a brain in your skull, you'd realize it's not a temper tantrum, it's calling it what it is.  I read a short article about adrian and I see 7+ pages of comments from fucking idiots acting like they're freaking experts on the sox, padres, and what's to become of all this.

Nobody knows the future.

All I know is boston can use this guy, and I also know if this means the end of beltre, who cares, so far in his career he's been a 1-hit wonder and now he's seeking multi millions, so what, he can slip back to mediocrity?  I got 2 words for that.

And martinez?  he couldn't even throw the ball to 2nd base.

the main thing boston needed last year was to stay healthy. fans didn't even see how cameron would do, jacoby barely played, youk and ped hurt.   they were decimated.  Boston's had to bring up more guys from the minors the past 2 years than I've ever recalled in their history and that concerns me now... with them giving up kelly and potentially other top prospects for adrian, if they get hurt, then there's problems again.   i haven't heard if hall's staying around, but most likely he's earned a starting job and will play for someone else.

anyway, like i said, nobody knows the future, and all this chatter really is just a waste of time.

and dude, stop fucking psychoanalyzing me.  you ain't a doctor and i don't give a fuck.  you need to stop learning to take everything so personal and more importantly, stop trying to speak like you're speaking for everyone here.   speak for yourself and stop worrying about what everyone else thinks.  that's why you're a fucking idiot, not to mention the fact you take way too many fucking pills.  dumb  shit.

now just die so I don't have to reply to your dumbass again

The Padres shouldn't be too bad off, they still have a pretty decent rotation w/ Latos, Richard, Stauffer and now Harang to pick up where Garland left off.  The bull pen is still deep, even after we deal Bell for a washing machine.  In the lineup we still have Ludwick, Venable, Headley and now Cameron Maybin.  They're young but all of the pieces they have stick with the plan of pitching and defense that worked pretty well last year.  Now this team could never compete with the Phillies, Braves or Cardinals and certainly will have a tough time in the division with how good the Giants and Rockies are, but the team should still be fun to watch.

And the Red Sox will be really fun to watch.  I can't wait to see what Adrian does at Fenway.  That's going to be fun for sure.

Pinktoad; so don't take a xanex (which is just a sedative), although I think it might help you. At least have a beer or something. If I was forced to guess who the pill-popper was, I would definitely go with you! I don't even get what you're so fire up about. You're clearly not a Padre's fan and I didn't see you declare yourself as a Red Sox fan, so why the temper tantrum? You accuse people of being "idiots", but name calling and judgments&nbs
p;certainly don't say a lot your credibility.

Congratulations Boston Red Sox you are getting the complete package. Gonzalez  led the major leagues last season with a .407 average with runners in scoring position. He plays defense and wins gold gloves. He hits for average when somebody decent is behind him (usualy .320). Key word is decent. He hits for power in one of the worst home run hitting ballparks ever. (petco).  He even has a good arm and has gunned down a few people at home plate when given the opportunity. He also a great community person who gives back to the community and does charity stuff. The only thing he does not do well is steal bases. In Bostons line up he will hit at least .310 and hit at least 40 home runs.
As for the hapless Padres, they will be able to spend once ownership fully changes hands in 3 years.  Until then the Padres get what the Red Sox wont need at first base anymore in Anthony Rizzo.. age 19 he has power and middle hit average. He will hit the big leagues in 2 to 3 years and he will be good.

They also get Casey Kelly one of the the best pitching prospects the Red sox have seen in years.  He will be in the big leagues in 2 to 3 years and would most likely be a number 2 or 3 starter. He was the lynchpin in the deal.
They also get Reymond Fuentes. He is a wild card a very atheletic center fielder prospect type which is what is needed by the Padres, who has base stealing speed and defense. He will also make the big leaguesin 2-3 years.
There is also a possibility the Padres will get a player or players  to be named later, or a draft pick. or maybe even cash considerations. Rumors are Kolbrin Vitek (a third/second baseman from Ball State University) and/or 6-foot-7 right-handed pitcher Anthony Ranaudo.

My Padres are going to stink for a couple of years.

Good point Spartacus.  My only question with this trade is since Adrian won't be baseball ready until spring training, do they postpone the physical until then, or do they give him a conditional pass based on average recovery time?

This is without a doubt the most passive-agressive thread I've read on this site's discussion boards. Those of you into name-calling and sarcasm need to lighten up- go for a walk, hug a puppy, sit in a comfy chair with a cup of tea. All this anger over what seems like a pretty reasonable baseball trade is ridiculous.

True and very relevant to how the Adrian deal should help both clubs.  And seriously, i don't really think I'm the one taking things personally here.  Oh well, back to my pills i guess.  Thank you for you insight...

and you're a funny guy.  you shouldn't take it so personal, being a fucking idiot that is.  I mean, it is just my opinion, but there must be some truth to what I say because you seem to have taken personal offense.

See, it's the people who aren't fuckin idiots that can look past my comments and do what you proclaim to be doing... talking baseball.

yes, I think you do need to go pop another pill and move on.

worry about your padres loser, not me.

Pinktoad, you seem like a stand up person.  Definitely a well mannered respectful person.  Now I'll just go back to "popping my pills" and talking baseball with people that like to talk about baseball.  Thank you for your well mannered thoughtful posts
.  Some people can really be giant dicks on these boards, but not you pinktoad, your an all star...

i don't even know what xanex is, obviously you do, so you must be some pill poppin depressed junkie, hell I don't know, but i don't need some drug laced loser trying to psychoanalyze me.  Keep your bullshit to yourself.

there's people talkin bout this and that and nothing means anything till it all plays out.  fact is, boston hasn't had the same punch in their lineup since manny left.  they tried the ghost and that didn't pan out, so he went to the mets and last year the sox were decimated with injuries.

who cares about the padres.  they're pretenders and always have been.  this deal is about boston, not san diego.

termites can go back to their wood now
