Red Sox-Padres deal for Gonzalez off

According to multiple reports, the proposed trade between the Red Sox and Padres involving All-Star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez has fallen through, as the Red Sox were unable to negotiate a contract extension for Gonzalez prior to today's deadline.

The Red Sox have been said to be unwilling to go through with the deal, which would have cost them a significant package of prospects, without either an extension for Gonzalez or a solid guarantee that he'll sign at a future date. He is slated to become a free agent after 2011.

For now, the deal appears dead, though it could still go through without an extension. As we detailed here, there are reasons that would be advantageous for Boston.

Red Sox-Padres deal for Gonzalez off

Congradulations PhillyAlchemist, you're a wonderful representation of your city's fans. My brain is a bit numb from reading the phrase "whiny crybabies" which composed about 80% of your post, but I'll try to be brief in my response.

Why mention Brady Anderson at all and then criticize someone who posted his stats to highlight your stupid comparison? What was the point of that comparison anyway? Could it be that there was none and you're just a jackass?

Jealousy for rival sports cities bleeds over into other sports. The Sox have nothing to do with the Phillies yet you seem to have a burning hatred for them and the city they play in. Wonder why that is…

Are you really pointing to cbssports' automatic post rating as a sign that anything you said was worth a damn?

If Santa was real, you'd certainly pelt him with batteries. And if Jesus was born in Philadelphia, you'd probably crucify him.

Red Sox-Padres deal for Gonzalez off

Merry Christmas Red Sox nation.  He is awesome!  Did you see the graphs of all his abs and where all the balls went last season if he would have been playing at Fenway?  Impressive.  He is worth every penny.  As good as Texiera.  He is an absolute masher.  Now sign Crawford and that line up is absolutely scary.

Red Sox-Padres deal for Gonzalez off

Betre is the guy to be suspicious of actiong big in his walk year and then small once he gets a milto year deal. AdGonz is the real deal all the way and if you extrapolate  his numbers from a severe pitchers park like San Diego with anemic support in the order to Fenway and a good hitting tea, his numbers can pn;y go up. He has been an elite hitter for four years now.  Only the uninfomred could  suggest he might be a one year wonder. Theo will have to hide from the nickname "C-ck Teaser" if he can't get his fixed and reel him in after all the news. This took over sports radio in Boston over the weekend relegating Monday nights Pats-Jets to the back burner. Theo loses big credibility-wise if he does not bring AdGonz in. Of course he try tp shrug it off as a media creation but he flew back from San Diego with the guy. It is hard to believe he would not sign him now unless he failed the physical. Rumor control at this point.

Boston.com says trade is done with no extention, but look for an extention to be announced after opening day.
