Royals ink Melky Cabrera

Posted on: December 9, 2010 9:43 am

Cabrera The Royals brought in a second outfielder after agreeing to terms with Jeff Francouer Wednesday.

This time, they plucked Melky Cabrera for $1.5 million who emerged as a fan favorite with the Yankees and looked to have an intriguing career ahead of him before he was dealt to the Braves in the Javier Vazquez trade. The signing was first reported by Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes .

In Atlanta, Cabrera was awful offensively and defensively with terrible conditioning. If he can show up in shape, he has a good chance of recovering his value but the 26-year-old will need to display some maturity to be capable of that.

In his career, the Melk Man has a .267/.328/.379 line in 2,657 at-bats.

This is not even funny anymore. It's starting to get very sad. Now that's 8? players on their 25 man roster that have formerly played for the Braves.

FWIW, Francouer and Melky do have 2 of the best of arms in MLB.

Wow, an article on the Royals in December.  Didn't Brett Favre have a bowel movement for the press to report today?

I think Cabrera has a bigger upside than Francouer. He can play any OF position. He is a funny guy though. Why he showed up out of shape last year, I have no idea....if he is ready and commited to play he can help the Royals.

Ehh. I am a huge Braves fan and a Royals fan. He is a waste of roster space. He was such a disappointment in ATL last year. I was hoping Melky would not end up in KC.
