This time, they plucked Melky Cabrera for $1.5 million who emerged as a fan favorite with the Yankees and looked to have an intriguing career ahead of him before he was dealt to the Braves in the Javier Vazquez trade. The signing was first reported by Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes .
In Atlanta, Cabrera was awful offensively and defensively with terrible conditioning. If he can show up in shape, he has a good chance of recovering his value but the 26-year-old will need to display some maturity to be capable of that.
In his career, the Melk Man has a .267/.328/.379 line in 2,657 at-bats.
