Renteria 'disrespected' by Giants' $1M offer

Renteria "That offer from the Giants was a lack of respect. A total disrespect," Edgar Renteria told ESPN Deportes' Enrique Rojas on Thursday.

Renteria was speaking about the Giants' $1 million offer to be the backup infielder for San Francisco.

"To play for a million dollars, I'd rather stay with my private business and share more time with my family," he said. "Thank God I'm well off financially and my money is well invested."

(Raise your hand if you'd like to play for a million...)

Renteria just won another World Series ring with the Giants, although he missed part of the season due to injury and hit just .276/.322/.374 in 267 plate appearances with iffy defensive results.

However, Renteria was instrumental in the World Series run, nabbing the MVP award. He has considered retirement but is willing to return to San Francisco or other former teams in the Cardinals and Marlins. Florida is reported to have some interest, but it is not known whether the Marlins are the other team to offer a deal -- but the other offer wasn't to his satisfaction either.

"I have received at least another offer since I was a free agent, but it wasn't what I'm looking for to continue playing," Renteria said. "If I got a good offer, I'm playing, and if not, it's better to stay at home."

Renteria's likely staying home, because no team is going to pay a breaking down, aging player more than a million or two to backup. And to Renteria's credit, he's had a strong enough career that he doesn't have to accept any deal not to his liking.

Renteria 'disrespected' by Giants' $1M offer

Mr. Renteria, you need to leave baseball alone, it has obviously passed you was a great run!  You have been overpaid the last two years anyway.  So, your $1 million dollar offer just tries to balance it all out.  You have not deserved the money you've made for about the last...five years I would say.  Have a GREAT RETIREMENT!  SEE YA

Renteria 'disrespected' by Giants' $1M offer

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate your performance in the world series, but overall Mr. Renteria, I feel your performance the last two years fell well short of your $18.5 million dollar contract.  This contract reflects on that performance.

Renteria 'disrespected' by Giants' $1M offer

Can the Giants expect you to top what you did in the playoffs? No

Can anyone in Major League Baseball expect you to top what you did in the playoffs? No

Are you injury prone? Yes

Are you in your late 30's? Yes

Looks like somebody forgot this was a business. As a tigers fan, you owe us at least a million dollars the way you played when we paid you.

Happy retirement... If you want to be disrespected, change your name to Donnovan McNabb.

Renteria 'disrespected' by Giants' $1M offer

Hey Edgar! Why not make a counter offer instead of making headlines with your gripes? You would make a nice back-up at SS for $2-3 mil. I don't like all the racist comments by some of the readers out here, but you could be wiser with what you say on TV. If you retire, do it with dignity and don't make it about the money. Yes, it's a business, but it's also the dream of millions of fans. If you want respect, come back to SF for $1 million and make Tejada an overpaid back-up.

Drop dead

Screw this guy and his 1 million dollar offer. I guess the love of the game isn't enough anymore for the arrogant immigrants.
