Renteria 'disrespected' by Giants' $1M offer

Renteria "That offer from the Giants was a lack of respect. A total disrespect," Edgar Renteria told ESPN Deportes' Enrique Rojas on Thursday.

Renteria was speaking about the Giants' $1 million offer to be the backup infielder for San Francisco.

"To play for a million dollars, I'd rather stay with my private business and share more time with my family," he said. "Thank God I'm well off financially and my money is well invested."

(Raise your hand if you'd like to play for a million...)

Renteria just won another World Series ring with the Giants, although he missed part of the season due to injury and hit just .276/.322/.374 in 267 plate appearances with iffy defensive results.

However, Renteria was instrumental in the World Series run, nabbing the MVP award. He has considered retirement but is willing to return to San Francisco or other former teams in the Cardinals and Marlins. Florida is reported to have some interest, but it is not known whether the Marlins are the other team to offer a deal -- but the other offer wasn't to his satisfaction either.

"I have received at least another offer since I was a free agent, but it wasn't what I'm looking for to continue playing," Renteria said. "If I got a good offer, I'm playing, and if not, it's better to stay at home."

Renteria's likely staying home, because no team is going to pay a breaking down, aging player more than a million or two to backup. And to Renteria's credit, he's had a strong enough career that he doesn't have to accept any deal not to his liking.

Renteria 'disrespected' by Giants' $1M offer

Edgar Renteria says he's being disrespected by the Giants offer of $1 million to play for them next year.Imagine asking somebody to play a game for 6 months & only offering them a million bucks to do it. What nerve!! Now,can somebody please tell me where I can go to get disrespected like that?If working for a cool million a year is groveling these days-well brother, I'll be happy to grovel.

These baseball players have made so much money for so long that they've just lost contact with the real world.A million dollars a season is a lot more than any salary Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, or Mickey Mantle ever got. It's more than most people make in their entire working lives. And these days, a utility infielder is insulted by such an offer? Now, remind me why I should be happy to fork over a hundred bucks for a ticket to see these prima-donnas play one game?Of course... the tickets are so expensive because teams have to generate enough revenue to pay the going rate on MLB player salaries.Well, if these salaries keep going up & up & up MLB is going to price itself right out of existence.

Renteria 'disrespected' by Giants' $1M offer

huh... it's all timing Edgar. A hot streak during a Championship run does not a season make. Please feel free to sit on the sideline and thumb your nose at a million bucks. If your private biz is outperforming that kind of income per hour actually worked, then it really should get your full attention. YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE:   Are there any non-fragile .276 streak hitter shortstops out there willing to play for the WORLD CHAMPS for a million bucks?   The line forms right here... behind me. Thanks Edgar. Just when I thought we were running out of athletes out of touch with reality you came to our rescue. Vaya con Dios y Buena Suerte! Gracias para el Penant.

Here's a good idea Edgar...go back your your own country and whine about only making a million dollars a year to play baseball here in America....I'm betting that won't happen.  He is average at best...1 million is more than enough for this idiot.  Better idea...don't give anymore interviews and we will make it 1.1 million.....jerkoff

Seriously? Pay the man? The guy spent most of his Giants tenure on the DL at a high salary. He was paid and didn't perform. Also, the GM of the Giants is Brian SABean, not SEBean. And who the f is Felipe Lopez?

Renteria 'disrespected' by Giants' $1M offer

First of all Edgar Renteria and Carl Crawford are at each end of the spectrum.CC has already had a great career and the best is yet to come.i.e.7 years in Fenway.I know he's young, but he's probably gonna make the HOF on the first ballot.Anyway that's what CC can look forward.
As for Renteria, he played in Boston a few years ago.To say he sucked would be rude so I wont......................
The best years ....wait.........moments in his career was a couple key hits in the playoff, WS.
If Edgar doesn't take that offer of 1 year for one million he's nuts. His future will be asking one question."You want fries with that?"
Management knows he's washed up and has been for  about 15 years and they still offer him a million dollars.
Take the deal Edgar

Maybe you should pick bananas.  You sure as hell can't spell.  If you are going to insult someone at least show you aren't an idiot.
