Tom Gorzelanny The Mets' search for a starting pitcher is more likely to be solved via trade than a free-agent reclamation project, Mike Puma of the New York Post writes .

Now, don't start getting dreams of Zack Greinke, Mets fans, lower your standards (surely, by now, you're used to this, aren't you?)

Anyway, Puma writes Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has already talked to the Cubs about Tom Gorzelanny (pictured). If that doesn't excite you, the team has talked, at least internally, about finding a way to shoehorn in arbitration-eligible right-hander Matt Garza, who is under team control through the 2013 season.

The team has talked to free-agent right-hander Chris Young, who is a big risk, and has apparently passed on lefty Jeff Francis, who was asking for $4 million for next season.

So rest easy, Phillies, you're still on track to have the best rotation in the division next season.

Mets looking to trade for starter

Mets fans expecting the team to compete next year are delusional (and I'm a Mets fan).  It will take several years to rebuild the farm system, clean out the bad contracts and find guys who know how to compete.  I have no problem with the Mets looking for short-term players to fill in gaps while they work on developing youngsters for the future.  They should have started doing that in 2008, but better late then never.

BTW, Phillies fans should bear in mind that their big three pitchers are all past 30 and may become expensive physical wrecks before their expensive contracts end.  In a few years, if Sandy Alderson plays his cards right, it may be Phillies fans looking ruefully at an up and coming young Mets squad.  (Or not, if Jeff Wilpon keeps interfering.)

Mets looking to trade for starter

LOL.. I still wish the guy who was a Fry Cook at McDonalds and defrauded the Wilpons into thinking he was a Bonafide GM was still in the Front office playing Halloween, defrauding thousands of Clueless MUTS Fans for6 seasons.. I loved laughing at the 1000 yard stare of Minaya. Yet he got away w it for years, and frankly, he was a very good propagandist too, because He would have the Muts faithful in a Frenzy  some of them looking like the Germans at a Rally during WW2, ready to die for their leader, themselves spewing the Propaganda, and on April 25th planning a victory parade, telling us Phillies Fan,its our time now... And while you won a Div Crown in 2006 you collapsed in 2007, only to buy into it all again in 08,and yet again.. By 2009, you were a beaten team, and a BROKEN Fanbase w a MONEY PIT of a stadium that doesnt get as many fans as the Nats did, then your entire team got injured, except forDavid Wright, but some spectualted he was injured due to his dramatic reduction in  HR production the Management lowered the fences... ( A REAL, functioning GM,one who wasnt just the OIL Technician/FRYBOTIMIST or aka frycook...

I feared the day when someone actually caught on to Minaya's fake resume and actually figured out that the RMcD Professional Baseball League was really the Ronald McDonald house Baseball league, and he would get fired.. That is because eventually ( 3 full seasons away ) the Mets would again be relevant in the NL East..However, the type ofplayers that are entrenched in the Mets are almost all in the mold of Minaya and they have to be dealt,I would keep David Wright and ( I will deny saying this, but Big Softy too,Mike Pelfrey) and one more if he can be saved in Angel Pagan, only if Beltran doesnt poison him that is )...

I would trade Reyes and his aloof self, Beltran would be gone before Pitchers and Catchers, then deal YO YO to the NYY for Gardner, and Jesus Montero and a stud pitching prospect. You should get rid of Johan asapbefore he falls apart further and your stuck w him and get nothing except a bill for him being injurewd while collecting $67 mill you still owe him...

Anyway, what do you all think of the Phillies newest Pitcher ??? I remember in August when you all stated the WILPONS ( ignoring the NY DAILY News article stating that although Madoff was in PRISON, they WILPONS were the ones who where given the AMERICAN ME TREATMENT) that you were going to make a big push for LEE.... BAHAAAAAAWAAAAAA !! Hilarious, that was as convincing as YO YO stating he was best Pitcher in the NL East ( He isnt even in the TOP 5 and that was before LEE came back ).. Have a nice 3 seasons cleaning up the BIG Dump Minaya  left, you may want an interpretor to tell u where the cleaning supplies are, because that whole organization w execption of David Wright is like the ALNLKQ that is the ALmighty Nation of the Latin  Kings and Queens or something like that...

Mets looking to trade for starter

The Mets really make me laugh.  I feel for the Met fans but do not worry, come to the ballpark and see that crappy team perform.

Tom Gorzelanny is your answer? Yikes. And Mr. Rosencrantz, just give the details and leave out the editorials (and the cheap shots). Isn't it bad enough that you write for a web site? And write 8 line articles at that.
