Greinke asks to be traded

Posted on: December 17, 2010 8:34 pm
Zack Greinke
Well, we've moved from "the Royals might consider trading Zack Greinke for the right price" to "Zack Greinke wants out."

Greinke fired his agent Friday, apparently part of an effort to force a trade. is hearing from multiple major-league sources that the Cy Young winner has asked to be traded.

Greinke, 27, is unhappy with being on a losing team, something he was very open about in a September interview. "I just want to be on a team that's working towards winning right now. I don't want to just go through years where you're rebuilding. It's not something that gets me excited is all."

After winning the Cy Young in 2009 with a MLB-best 2.16 ERA, Greinke went 10-14 with a 4.17 ERA last season. Baseball people think Greinke wasn't giving his best effort, and he admitted he wasn't motivated, things that might be corrected with a change of scenery.

Greinke has a no-trade provision with 15 teams listed, including the Yankees, Nationals, Blue Jays, Brewers and Red Sox. Of course, that doesn't mean he can't be traded to any of those 15 teams, just that he'd have to give permission. Now that he's trying to get out, that's probably more likely than it was when he signed the contract. He has two more years on his deal at $13.5 million per season.

The Royals had reportedly been asking for the moon for Greinke, but the pitcher's new stance might pressure them to be more flexible. And Greinke's new agent, Casey Close, was the force behind getting Roy Halladay out of Toronto last winter.

If I'm a GM, I'd be a little wary of banking on a guy for whom a $38 million contract and a sense of professionalism didn't provide sufficient motivation to work hard at his job. But you can bet the lure of adding a No. 1 pitcher is going to be enough to get a lot of teams past those misgivings.

Greinke asks to be traded

If he went to NY or Boston, he would have a winning record....the stress won't be that bad on him as people think.  The Yanks need him after losing out on Clifford and The Sox need him even more....the last time I looked Adrian Gonzo and Carl Crawford couldn't pitch!

Why call Greinke a one hit wonder....he had more than one good year....especially playing for a crappy team like The Royals!

Agree 100 percent. With the Phillies getting such pitching, a starting pitching corp that would be Grienke, Hudson, Jurgens, Lowe, and the disappointing so called superstar in the making would make the Braves very even with the Phillies. I mentioned this a week ago in a blog. The Braves have the young players to make a deal. Send Minor and a couple of prospects and it would seem good for all. Dreaming is good haha, no way Wren does this.

oh i see have a bad year and have your team liquidated the mariners won over 90 games last year nad yes didnt agree with many of the moves this year but they also have one of the higher payrolls in baseball so they compete finacally also..with that id say in two three years theyll be in the thick of things again..where as the pirates the royals cant even remember when they had a decent year let alone a great one.

Not to say that Texas will succeed, but you just know that the Rangers are grumbling after losing the 7-8 Cliff Lee (yes, he was 7-8 with the Rangers if you include the postseason).

What a loser...Of course you had to add in there that Cliff lee was only 7-8 after going to the rangers from the Mriners. of course you had to add that in there because your a hater and are so bitter that Lee didnt go back to the rangers. if he went to the rangers this would be the greatest thing since sliced bread but now that hes back here in Philly it turns into "oh he was only 7-8 for the rangers" HAHAHAhAAHA what a loser. Go ahead go get Greinke and we will take Lee(proven starter) for the next 5-6 years. you can  have greinke(one-year wonder) for the next 2 years. I have no problem with greinke and think hes a good talent and i sress the word TALENT, because thats all he is is talent. he has had one good year and nothing else and he hasnt provent hat he can put all that talent together for a couple years in a row. I was hoping the Phillies would trade for this guy before they got lee because as a 4th starter he would be great, but to bring him in as an ace of a team when he hasnt proven anything is a little funny.

Now i would take 7-8 Lee over one hit wonder Greinke anyday...Go hate on somebody else you lil girl...

I wouldn't include the Nats in that list, they have made some big signings and have been in a horrible position up until last year, they might even be a solid team as soon as 2012, they also have the richest ownership group so they might actually spend some $$. As far as Grienke goes, HE'S A HUGE PUSSY! I wonder why he had the Yankees and Red Sox on his no trade list. Its because he is too much of a bitch to pitch under the spotlight where there is serious pressure to perform. Nobody cares Zack, stay buried in Kansas City and pray nobody notices you, your sub .500 record and 4= era.................  Freakin' Stiff.

Here's one for you: trade Greinke then liquidate the Royals. They have no business being in MLB. Or, pry this team away from the A-holes that run wal-mart. While you're at it liquidate the pirates, the natinals, the mariners; that ought to reduce the number of teams to where some decent baseball is played again for a full season and will get the owners away from the dumb idea of expanding the playoffs
