Greinke asks to be traded

Zack Greinke
Well, we've moved from "the Royals might consider trading Zack Greinke for the right price" to "Zack Greinke wants out."

Greinke fired his agent Friday, apparently part of an effort to force a trade. FOXSports.com is hearing from multiple major-league sources that the Cy Young winner has asked to be traded.

Greinke, 27, is unhappy with being on a losing team, something he was very open about in a September interview. "I just want to be on a team that's working towards winning right now. I don't want to just go through years where you're rebuilding. It's not something that gets me excited is all."

After winning the Cy Young in 2009 with a MLB-best 2.16 ERA, Greinke went 10-14 with a 4.17 ERA last season. Baseball people think Greinke wasn't giving his best effort, and he admitted he wasn't motivated, things that might be corrected with a change of scenery.

Greinke has a no-trade provision with 15 teams listed, including the Yankees, Nationals, Blue Jays, Brewers and Red Sox. Of course, that doesn't mean he can't be traded to any of those 15 teams, just that he'd have to give permission. Now that he's trying to get out, that's probably more likely than it was when he signed the contract. He has two more years on his deal at $13.5 million per season.

The Royals had reportedly been asking for the moon for Greinke, but the pitcher's new stance might pressure them to be more flexible. And Greinke's new agent, Casey Close, was the force behind getting Roy Halladay out of Toronto last winter.

If I'm a GM, I'd be a little wary of banking on a guy for whom a $38 million contract and a sense of professionalism didn't provide sufficient motivation to work hard at his job. But you can bet the lure of adding a No. 1 pitcher is going to be enough to get a lot of teams past those misgivings.

Greinke asks to be traded

Dayton Moore will screw this up....he's one of the WORST GM's in baseball.  There have been fewer situations where you have a Cy Young talent signed for great money (by BB standards) whom maybe 5-6 teams want to acquire.

I could do a better job than Dayton......I'd even donate my slary to charity for the 1st year!

The Royals are about to trade their only good player not named Soria and for the life of me, don't see why any Royals fan would spend a nickel to watch, maybe the worst team in baseball history play ball......Other than Butler, we might not have a single player that would START on any other team in the big leagues.......

I would love take Dayton's job!  We need to trade Soria as well........there are 5-6 big market teams needing bullpen help!  He might bring as much as Greinke.....plus, Royals won't be winning 50-55 games anyways!

Then, we will have a ton of prospects that looks great on paper!  Zack is a crybaby and he needs to be traded......he mailed it in late last year.....but he was right that very 'few' top prospects ever turn in to all-star players and they always take 1-2 years longer to develop than anyone expects......there are only so many Braun's & Longoria's around.....Royals need 4-5 of them and 3-4 similar pitchers.

The real joke is the Royals will trade away their only marketable player that fans want to see.....and David Glass will make bank again and again and again.......and 'if' the Royals do get to .500 level in 3-4 years, they will then.....guess what, be looking for #1 starter........whom they won't be able to afford and who will want  to come to K.C. to play?

Reality is Allan Baird / Dayton Moore have had many years to position the Royals to be a .500 team....then when talents like Greinke & Soria arrive, you can keep them and build something......handing out dipshit 3 yr. - 36m contracts to Guillen, 5yr. - 55m to Meche, 2 yr. - 9m Farnsworth......I can keep going on.......Moore sucks!  Baird was worse!

K.C. is a joke......we are a farm team for the big market cities and re-hab career destinations for older guys looking to rebound and get that one last contract.......we need to be calling Manny to K.C.  How about Sheffield?  Atleast fans want to see those two clowns!

What's really sad about Moore is every player we let go....turns into a solid BB player.......so if have to be a combination of losing, bad coaching, & bad GM!   John Buck turns in career year after he left and get's rewarded w/ 3 yr. 18m contract....and who is K.C. catcher?  Jason Kendall....signed a 2 yr. - 6m contract....really!

Please help me get this post to Dayton Moore....cause he's a JOKE!    The local Independant BB team - T-Bones - have a batter team than Royals and sell-out every night......Royals will be LUCKY to have 10,000 fans the 60+ games vs. non-drawing teams....take away games vs. Yanks, Cards, & BoSox......and it will be a very long season for Royals!

Hey, the Padres gave everyone hope last year......so that BS will work through April.......the Padres were a very good team for those who know BB....maybe the best bullpen in BB, superstar w/ Gonzo and good pitching and many solid pieces and they played in right park in right division......Royals won't be so lucky!  At least w/ Grinke, they had a chance every 5th day.....when Zack actually cared!

Greinke asks to be traded

The thing about the Royals,is they have the number 1 rated farm system talent wise.It would make more sense if they worked out a trade for some good solid veteran leadership.

Greinke asks to be traded

As a Yankees fan after reading this article it makes me want Zack Greinke even less. He admitted that he was not always motivated to pitch despite the fact that he is getting paid $13.5 million per year. It sounds like the mental health issues of his past are still there and are re-surfacing. We have one head case in A.J. Burnett and do not need another. Besides if Greinke is having all of these problems pitching in a small market like Kansas City what makes him think he could even survive in the media capital of the world like New York where everything you do is scrutinized. Outside of a Greinke for Burnett straight up trade (which I know is very unlikely) I have no interest in seeing Greinke in Yankee pinstripes.

Greinke asks to be traded

Admitted he didn't give his best effort and wasn't motivated ... for only 13.5 million a year ... we sure do have a way of adoring the wrong people in America.

Greinke asks to be traded

if the royals were smart they would take the best deal on the table right now cause the offers are only going to get less and less.  and if they wait til next year to trade him to get another year with an ace on the ataff they will get next to nothing cause everyone will know they have to dump him off or lose hinm at the end of the year.
