Greinke asks to be traded

Zack Greinke
Well, we've moved from "the Royals might consider trading Zack Greinke for the right price" to "Zack Greinke wants out."

Greinke fired his agent Friday, apparently part of an effort to force a trade. FOXSports.com is hearing from multiple major-league sources that the Cy Young winner has asked to be traded.

Greinke, 27, is unhappy with being on a losing team, something he was very open about in a September interview. "I just want to be on a team that's working towards winning right now. I don't want to just go through years where you're rebuilding. It's not something that gets me excited is all."

After winning the Cy Young in 2009 with a MLB-best 2.16 ERA, Greinke went 10-14 with a 4.17 ERA last season. Baseball people think Greinke wasn't giving his best effort, and he admitted he wasn't motivated, things that might be corrected with a change of scenery.

Greinke has a no-trade provision with 15 teams listed, including the Yankees, Nationals, Blue Jays, Brewers and Red Sox. Of course, that doesn't mean he can't be traded to any of those 15 teams, just that he'd have to give permission. Now that he's trying to get out, that's probably more likely than it was when he signed the contract. He has two more years on his deal at $13.5 million per season.

The Royals had reportedly been asking for the moon for Greinke, but the pitcher's new stance might pressure them to be more flexible. And Greinke's new agent, Casey Close, was the force behind getting Roy Halladay out of Toronto last winter.

If I'm a GM, I'd be a little wary of banking on a guy for whom a $38 million contract and a sense of professionalism didn't provide sufficient motivation to work hard at his job. But you can bet the lure of adding a No. 1 pitcher is going to be enough to get a lot of teams past those misgivings.

Greinke asks to be traded

The guy signed a contract to play baseball for a sub .500 team. They have attempted to improve the club thru trade and free agent signings, and they havent done that BAD of a job at it.....no A+ for sure, maybe a C+, but at least they've tried. He wants instant gratification. He should play next season, do his best, then be traded by the royals cause they know they cant afford him when he hits free agent status, He'll get max $$$$ and go to a winning team that likes too spend big bucks. Problem solved. Unless he has a personal problem with the Royals management or coaching staff or players, then he needs to just play ball. everything else will work itself out.

Greinke asks to be traded

He's 27 years of age going on 12. Lack of professionalism? Lack of maturity.....wasn't he the pitcher at the end of Bad News Bears?

Greinke asks to be traded

Hey rocket scientist !! Since you have ZERO EVIDENCE of Oswalt hitting a wall, especially since he posted his lowest ERA of his career as a full time starter, and his Fastball was electric not tied like WAINO's down the stretch... The Guy was 10-1 w the Phillies, yet you come out your neck w an assanine statement.. Besides, Doc is better then Waino ( Proven in 2010, Lee smokes Carp.. And Greinke may foldlike your team did in 09 NLDS as well as the 2010 Stretch run...

If I were you, Id save your pennies and spend em all at the Ballpark so your team can resign Pujols, trust me that should be your #1 concern... LOL
Oswalt was the Phillies best Pitcher from time he got traded untilendof season, yet this mo mo simply crosses his legs and comes up w a great theory, NOT..

Besides the Cards made their BIG Splash ( Literally and figuratively) by signing ex juicer extrodinairre  Lance Berkman.....LOL !!!Have fun being in 2nd to the Reds AGAIN !!

Greinke asks to be traded

It is funny but cash is still King, and no prospects in their whole minor leagues.

There are so many lists online it is hard to know which ones are accurate.  Just because you say no talent doesn't make it true, maybe they have to trade Nova, who spent half a year in the majors last year and currently would be their number 5 starter, along with a top catching prospect supposedly other than Montero they have three others.  Plus there are always draft picks also, so the Yankees give a     1st round pick next year, a 3rd round pick the following year, Nova, and Laird,  the guy is a little older but 100 rbi's in triple A isn't too shabby.  Not sure what specifically the Royals are looking for, but for anyone's first rd pick next year plus two or three good prospects any team should be able to get this done

Greinke asks to be traded

The Tigers can offer everything needed to make this deal.  A good park for a pitcher.  Not a pressure cooker environment like NY or Philly. A good offense.  Good prospects to go to KC, in Jacob Turner, Casey Crosby, Casper Wells, Scott Sizemore, etc.  Welcome to te Motor City, Mr. Greinke, you can slot in at #2 between Verlander and Scherzer, and we'll follow that up with Porcello and Galarraga.  AL Central title coming....
