Greinke asks to be traded

Zack Greinke
Well, we've moved from "the Royals might consider trading Zack Greinke for the right price" to "Zack Greinke wants out."

Greinke fired his agent Friday, apparently part of an effort to force a trade. FOXSports.com is hearing from multiple major-league sources that the Cy Young winner has asked to be traded.

Greinke, 27, is unhappy with being on a losing team, something he was very open about in a September interview. "I just want to be on a team that's working towards winning right now. I don't want to just go through years where you're rebuilding. It's not something that gets me excited is all."

After winning the Cy Young in 2009 with a MLB-best 2.16 ERA, Greinke went 10-14 with a 4.17 ERA last season. Baseball people think Greinke wasn't giving his best effort, and he admitted he wasn't motivated, things that might be corrected with a change of scenery.

Greinke has a no-trade provision with 15 teams listed, including the Yankees, Nationals, Blue Jays, Brewers and Red Sox. Of course, that doesn't mean he can't be traded to any of those 15 teams, just that he'd have to give permission. Now that he's trying to get out, that's probably more likely than it was when he signed the contract. He has two more years on his deal at $13.5 million per season.

The Royals had reportedly been asking for the moon for Greinke, but the pitcher's new stance might pressure them to be more flexible. And Greinke's new agent, Casey Close, was the force behind getting Roy Halladay out of Toronto last winter.

If I'm a GM, I'd be a little wary of banking on a guy for whom a $38 million contract and a sense of professionalism didn't provide sufficient motivation to work hard at his job. But you can bet the lure of adding a No. 1 pitcher is going to be enough to get a lot of teams past those misgivings.

Wwood, Greinke and Felix?  Lol.  Probably neither and it will only be Greinke if you are extremely lucky.

Greinke asks to be traded

The Tigers were horrible for years and then after actually drafted a few guys and developed them. they then decided to start spending money on free agents and resigning their own talent example: Pudge Rodriquez. Until the royals begin actually keeping any talent they produce and producing more then 2 every 10 years, Beltran and now finally Greinke then they don't have a chance. This makes me ask do you even think before you write?

Greinke asks to be traded

Oswalt is going to hit a wall this year and the Brass in Philly know it.  Thats why they signed Lee.  Oswalt was good, but he isn't any longer.  Halladay, Hamels and Lee are your top and Only 3.   Wainwright, Carpenter and Greinke get the nod over any combination of those 4 in philly.  Its close but when the Cards pull this trade off they will have the best top 3 rotation in Baseball.

Greinke asks to be traded

While I would like to see Greinke wearing birds on the bat...however, offense needs to be a major consideration here. What was the main issue with the Cards last year....offense. They were also sloppy defensively and made a lot of fundamental mistakes (baserunning...not getting down bunts....not working counts). Logically though, it is a solid fit and he definitely would have a better chance to win in St Louis than he does in many other places listed.

The Cardinals package and 3 pitching prospects for Grienke so they can stay on pace the the philies.  Wainwright, Carpenter, Greinke vs Halladay, Hamels and Lee....Its going to happen.

Did you forget about Oswalt?  The Cardinals could get Greinke and they still won't be on par with the Phillies' rotation.  Just sayin'....

Greinke asks to be traded

at the end of the day the New York Yankees will reign supreme

Greinke and Felix.

Dont play with fire.

It's always funny to see the outrageous comments of delusional Yankees fans!  Enlighten us all Big WWood, who are the Yankees going to trade to get these guys?  They have NO talent at the top of their farm system beyond Jesus Montero, which is someone who the Royals aren't even interested in.  The Royals are looking for Middle-Infielders and the Mariners would ask for a king's ransom to pry Hernandez off their team.  The Yankees don't have the bullets to pull off either trade and I can assure you that they won't be getting either player.  New York's only hope was signing Cliff Lee to dramaticallly improve that rotation, if they make any move it'll be much less significant.

the NYY win at all cost attitude died with George.  Do you think the offers Boston made for Gonzo and Crawdaddy were complete shocks the the yankees.....have fun getting old with Arod and Jeter.

Greinke asks to be traded

Very well said.  People who criticize those with so called lack of mental toughness do nothing but show their own inferiority complexes.  It is the same bullying tactic you see with kids who pick on weaker or smaller kids.  I have always liked Greinke and wish him success where ever he ends up.  I wouldn't complain if it turned out to be Boston!

Greinke asks to be traded

brewers are going to make a strong push for him as well as the nats, he wont go to the yanks since kansas will ask to much for him from them, breweres need an ace and they have the players to give up for him, yanks rotation is horriable, we can all say AJ was a bust no doubt an hughs cant go more then 6 innings at any givin time, CC isnt the elite pitcher he once was and Petit is to old his arm is likely to turn to dust on the first pitch he throws so im sure they are going to make a strong but unsuccesful push for him just like they did with Lee
