Agent sets deadline for Pujols deal

Posted on: January 15, 2011 3:11 pm

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak has vowed to remain tight-lipped on his efforts to sign Albert Pujols to an extension, but did share one detail with reporters on Saturday: It gets done by the start of spring training, or Pujols becomes a free agent after the season. The first baseman's agent, Dan Lozano, set the deadline at Pujols' request.

Pujols has made it clear he doesn't want to be distracted by contract issues during the season, but it was unclear precisely what the deadline was. Mozeliak has talked recently as if opening day was the target, but apparently the timeline is shorter than that. Pitchers and catchers report to Cardinals camp on February 14, with the full squad reporting February 19.

So yeah, John, it's only the most important contract in club history, and rioters will probably tear down the Gateway Arch at the mere thought of Pujols in pinstripes. No pressure.

SO SICK OF THE LOSERS...YES...LOSERS WHO COME ON HERE AND SAY "ALBERT DOES STEROIDS" OR "I HOPE HE IS CLEAN"!!!

People, this guy is going to end his career as one of the best five baseball players ever.  He is already near or at the top 10.  And Albert has NEVER ONCE been caught with steroids or failed a test.  So grow up you losers and haters who put that crap out there.  You are a joke to humanity.

Agent sets deadline for Pujols deal

Any other team can offer him $50mil per season with no preformance clause attached and he won't go.  His is a definite ONE TEAM MAN.  any otehr player with his history and stats would have demanded to redo his curent contract three years ago.  He didn't.  He will get his $30mil per year, he won't break the Cards bank to do it because he is also a team man and he wants them to be able to surround him with a team that can win.  One championship is not enough to establish him as the best ever.  He has the stats to do that, but without multiple Rings thee will always be the talk, he needs at least two more and he'll get them in St Louis with the Cards.  No Doubt!

Agent sets deadline for Pujols deal

If Pujols doesn't sign by Spring Training, he will be in Cubby blue next year as Carlos Pena on the Cubs only has a one year contract and the Cubs will have $40 million freed up to sign Albert.

Agent sets deadline for Pujols deal

Pujols is not going anywhere.  He is a family man and St. Louis is now his home.  Pay him a couple more million a year more than Holliday and all is well.  Number 5 will thank God for his ability to play baseball and his agent for making it look like they are really going to look elsewhere. Although it would be interesting to see him get traded at the deadline for the entire Kansas City Royals team.

Let's not get carried away there amatuer. This article is about Albert Pujols. Triple crown threat. He just wants the courtesy of knowing if the Cardinals are going to offer him a new deal or not. Isn't he owed that after making them contenders the last 8 years? There are teams lined up to sign him and he wants to know where he is living next year. Big deal.
