Ripken future Orioles owner?

Take this one with a big grain of salt, but hey, it does say "rumors" right in the name of the blog: Peter Angelos could be preparing to sell the Orioles to a group headed by Hall of Fame shortstop Cal Ripken.

This comes via a blog item from Baltimore radio station WNST, which got the inside info from sports gadfly and Orioles superfan Roy Firestone, who apparently got the tip from a confidential source at an Orioles event on Saturday. The source told Firestone the ownership transition would take place in the next two years.

Whether or not this ever comes to pass, the explosion in player salaries means we'll probably see a lot of former players as owners in the future, and that's probably a good thing. It can't hurt to have owners whose interest in the game is more than financial.

New Owner same old results. Tough division with Sox and Yanks spending the big bucks. The O's need to look inside the organization and do a better job of developing talent. Go Sox's

Not an Orioles fan, but as a baseball fan any deal that gets an incompentant like Angelos out the door is good in my book.  Here's hoping it happens.

Does this mean there's some hope here?  If it happens, I'm leading the parade down Pratt Street!

Good Story Bowman, not exactly sports related though.Although in hindsight, you should have done what I did.Instead of shooting for the moon by asking out the BEST looking girl, you instead ask out the ugliest. 1: You lose your virginity. 2; your pecker doesnt know the difference between beautiful and ugly, and 3; you instantly become the COOLEST guy in the Chess Club.

You might think that, and you are somewhat right.  It's been a long time since the opening of Camden and the magical new ballpark.  But on contrast to the Pittsburgh comment, while the Baltimore's football team is subpar to the team in Pittsburgh, your baseball team still is better than the Pirates... anyday.  18 years in row of losing seasons and now I'm rooting on the Cubs.  Tough!  Thank God for Football!!!  Maybe next year Raven fans, lol!

Angelos has to be the worst owner and that says a lot when you're competing with the likes of Donald Sterling of the Clippers and Bob Nutting of the Pirates.

A lot of this doesn't make sense because Angelos can just turn this over to his son like he just did . This should insulate him from the MLB. I think this is the same thing that Stienbrenner used While he was owner of the Yankees. B gigeverybody knows he was an avid horseracing fan and owner MLB give it a break

Ripken future Orioles owner?

so if this happens, does it make the O's relevant again ? or just another story to read about when it happens, only to die away during the season due to poor play ?

Ripken future Orioles owner?

OMG what a fantastic rumor.  I sincerely hope that it is true.  Angelos has done enough damage to the Orioles to last a lifetime.  Ripken et al would make sure that the team's best interests were realized and it could be back to baseball. If this happens, Yankees look out!  That would mean the Orioles would be back and with Showalter at the helm, there would be no stopping them.  Oh I hope this is true. Next would be to get rid of Andy McPhail.  He really needs to go. Maybe the Orioles could even sign a real starting Pitcher.Fantastic Rumor!
