Yankees sign Jones

Andruw Jones
As has been expected for the past week, the Yankees have signed Andruw Jones to be their fourth outfielder. Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com has confirmed that Jones will get $2 million with another $1.2 million in incentives.

In recent years Jones, 33, hasn't been anywhere near the numbers he put up in his prime, as he's batted .212/.312/.412 since 2007 with the Braves, Dodgers, Rangers and White Sox. But when healthy he's still a plus defensive player and he still has pretty good pop, hitting 19 homers last season in just 278 at-bats. His right-handed bat is a good fit with the Yankees, whose starters include two left-handers (Brett Gardner and Curtis Granderson) and a switch hitter (Nick Swisher). Jones batted .256 against left-handers last season.

Not as bad as it looks, about 300 AB's with about 20HR's, not bad for a platoon OF/DH and he can still play 'D'.

God, he was horrid on the White Sox. Mr. Clutch Andruw Jones. With men on base, count on a K or a GIDP.

His batting average has suffered but not his power. I don't think it was steroids. He needs a new eye doctor.

Funny how his batting stats have tanked after the whole steroids issue came about.  There is no way in heck this guy wasnt roiding to go from hitting 40 homers a year and hitting over .300 to barely over .200 and 5 or 6 homers a year.

Good to see the Yankees are still overpaying for used up hack talent.  I love it when they spend $200 million and dont win the world series or even make it.

Suck it Yankees fans get ready for another year without playing in the World Series.

Somebody needs to let the yankees know that there are only 3 outfileders in the game.  maybe he can play 5th base?
I agree carrying a 4th outfielder is such a waste of time.Embarassed

I think there are younger, healthier options for a 4th OF.
His defense is still good. Late inning sub? I don't think Yankee fans are going to like watching him pitch hit.
