O's pitcher arrested for DWI

Posted on: January 24, 2011 3:23 pm

Troy Patton, a candidate for a spot in the Orioles' bullpen next season, was arrested for DWI in Houston on Saturday night after his car jumped a curb, according to a TV report.

Patton, 25, registered 0.14 on a Breathalyzer test. The legal limit in Texas is 0.08. He posted $500 bail and was released, and will appear in court later this month.

Patton spent the 2010 season at Triple-A Norfolk, going 8-11 with a 4.43 ERA, and made one relief appearance with the Orioles after being called up in September. According to the Baltimore Sun, Patton's name has been removed from a list of players scheduled to appear at the team's FanFest next weekend.

Orioles are a total enigma this year.  I don't see them competing for the playoffs but they could win anywhere from 68 games to 85 games.  Neither final win total would surprise me - who knows.  They've improved the lineup and the bullpen but if the starting pitching flops then 68 wins are likely.

Your analysis on the Jays is pretty logical. A slight decline in wins from last year would not surprise me at all. If they don't get a resurgence from guys like Lind and Hill who played like clowns last year, that's exactly what will happen.

But I'll bet you any money the O's aren't winning 81 games. No way. Still last place, maybe they win 70 at best.

I thought in Texas .08 was the minimum to drink, not the limit.

He jumped a curb with a .14 BAL?  This guy is stupid!  I got my DWI because I ran out of gas, but when I got back to the station I blew a .18 and I felt fine when I was driving.

Yeah, but how many games were we out of first place before Showalter took over?  30 something.  So we played better baseball than the Rays, Jays, Yankees and Red Sox for 2 consecutive months (1/3 of a season).  I think everyone who is sure the O's will be in the cellar are going to get a surprise this year.  It's not like Napoli and Rivera replacing Wells makes the Jays any better.  It helps them for the future to untie the money your previous idiot gm gave to wells (and Rios lol, but it does not make them any better short term.  If anything, I think I'd rather have an overpaid Wells than a power hitting catcher that hits .230 and a has been OF.  Solid move by the Jays, but the move didn't make them better off for 2011.  So don't be so sure theJays are going to win 81 games this year.  I say they win 75, because I like your young rotation, but I think there will be some injuries and setbacks (I'm looking at Romero).  Morrow has a ton of potential, but is still unproven.  Marcum is gone.  I think Cecil will have a decent year, but Drabek is unporven as well and Litsch, let's just not get started.

short and long term.  I think people really discount how good the O's young arms are.  Matusz is going to be good, really good.  I bet he will win a Warren Span award and maybe even a  Cy Young award one day.  People forget about Bergeson because his splits were awful last year.  He has a 5+ era, but was great the last 2 months and had 4 months where is 92 mph sinker didn't sink.  Any ML hitter can hit a straight 92 mph fastball.  If the O's finish with less than 81 wins, I will honestly be shocked.  Tillman is the biggest ? mark, but Britton is ML ready if he does bad.

We will all see and I for one will be pleasantly surprised.  In no way shape or form do I have dreams of World Series aspirations but I do foresee a competitive team with a rotation that will sneak up on people.  Say what you will but its easy to pick on a team that has been underachieving for 14-15 years.  Its all fun and games until that team finally bites back and starts making noise in the AL East!!!

The Orioles were 19 GAMES out of FOURTH PLACE last year. That's pathetic. They will be bottom-feeders yet again. Nice signing with Derek Lee. Sadly, that won't erase the fact that your starting rotation is a complete joke, the bullpen was improved by two Blue Jays cast-offs, and the lineup is still pretty laughable.

I'm not hating. If it weren't for the Orioles, the Jays would have nobody to look down on most years, so I actually love them.

Lead report, Sox face cakewalk in AL East this year Yankees, Rays, Jays and O's in a heated battle for the cellar. Bankees didn't do anything the Rays only lost people, The Jays lost their best player and O's just suck
