Millwood searching for big money

Posted on: February 3, 2011 3:05 pm

Kevin Millwood One of the few remaining starters on the market, Kevin Millwood, is searching for $4-$5 million next season, ESPN's Buster Olney tweets .

Even for a Scott Boras client, that seems like a little much. Millwood was 4-16 with a 5.10 ERA last season, his first in Baltimore and the last of a five-year, $60 million deal he signed with Texas before the 2006 season.

The Yankees have reportedly been in contact with Millwood, Sports Illustrated 's Jon Heyman tweeted yesterday. Other possibilities include the Orioles, Indians and Royals, although it's unlikely any of those teams would be willing to fork out that kind of money for the 36-year old right-hander.

Millwood searching for big money

The Royals and Indians? Judging by his 16 losses last year, I guess he would fit right in with their culture of losing.

LOL!! Now that's funny!

Do not touch Millwood at all. He was once ok, now sucks.  As for the Yankees, they would be the only place he could get those big bucks.  This is where his agent can trick the Yankees by saying there is another team offering big cash.

One guy pulling for him to sign with the Yankees is AJ Burnett, because then the media there will have two starters with ERAs over 5.00 to rip.

159-137 over a 14 year career, do the math it doesn't exactly come out to $5mil a year.  Plus add the fact he hasn't had a winning year in four years, and his ERA has been over 4.5 in that time span.  He's obviousely looking and putting his stock in the Yanks, no other team out there would be willing to pay that money and I hope to the good lord that they don't.  If the Yanks need that starter, bring up a promising young guy from the farm and let him sink or swim this year and put a full year under his belt.  Keep JC in the pen and hope your staff can get you to the seventh and then let that No. ! bullpen take you home.  Millwood should sign the first contract that comes across his table and quit this demanding crap, he's in NO position to say NO anymore, you'r last big contract was in Texas.  Face it.
