Michael Young could be a Rockie shortly

YoungIn trade rumors that won't die, Michael Young's name has been rather prominent.

But a conclusion to the saga could be coming soon, with FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reporting that Young could be traded as soon as Monday to the Colorado Rockies, which would make him its second baseman.

Word surfaced Friday that Texas was still discussing Young with multiple teams, but it's narrowed back down to the Rockies, Rosenthal reports and talks are at an advanced stage, which means that the players are likely largely settled on. It's unknown who could be going back to Texas, but Eric Young, Jr. and Jose Lopez have been part of discussions. Texas earlier rejected Young, Jr. due to concerns about a stress fracture while Lopez isn't exactly a top second baseman as the Rangers know all too well from his Mariner days which came to a close last season.

To pull off such a deal for Michael Young, due $48 million over the last three years of his contract, Texas would either need to eat a high amount or Colorado will have to part with another high-salaried player. Rosenthal wonders about Aaron Cook, who could slide into Texas' rotation. Colorado would be able to move Cook given they acquired Felipe Paulino from Houston earlier in the offseason.

Any deal that is consummated will have to have the hurdles of how much money the Rangers are sending, along with the quantity and quality of players. The more money Texas sends, the more right they have to demand a top player. And the Rangers are looking for such a player, as Young is a fan favorite and leader. It's not easy to replace these things, especially if your return is only Jose Lopez.

Of course, Texas could just back out and keep Young as their DH and reserve infielder. Texas' comments to this effect the last few days have served as "mixed messages," so Colorado isn't entirely clear on whether or not they have a real shot at the third baseman.

For Young's part, while he's said all the right things publicly including not wanting to be traded, he has communicated privately he is unhappy about what his role will be in 2011. And now's the time to trade Young while teams are still looking to bolster holes.

Young has a limited no-trade clause, but Colorado is not on it. He will gain full rights this summer as a 10-and-5 player, however, so if the Rangers ever want to be able to trade him and not have to seek his approval, now's the time.

Michael Young could be a Rockie shortly

As a life long Texas Rangers fan, I sincerely hope & pray that the Rangers do NOT trade Michael Young!  He has been nothing but the ULTIMATE TEXAS RANGER since joining the team!  He's a great line drive hitter with some power & super versatility.  He's the heart & soul of the team & an unquestioned leader, those type of players deserve to be paid the money he's being paid & NOT to be traded because of that money.  DO NOT TRADE MICHAEL YOUNG!!!!

You do remember that the Jays are the ones that ship out the talent and not the ones who trade to get a good player. Face it the jays arent ready to compete just yet. The orioles will finish ahead of them this year...

This will be fun to see.  Who will be on the DL more Young or Tulowitzki.  Joke, such broken down players.......Forget the Rockies getting off to a fast start with these broken down players in the frigid air of Coors Fiels.  Sad.  So much money, so little playing time.  I hope mthey have some rookies to fill in.

First of all, MY is a consummate pro.  If the Rangers trade him, he'll go to that team and do the same thing for them that he did for the Rangers...he'll play at least 150 plus games....if the Rangers don't trade him...he'll be DH and super utility guy...I hoping for the latter myself as I've always liked MY and his professionalism.

The Ranger fans lamenting this idea are right on: M. Young is a hit machine--not many in the bigs like him.  The Rockies fans who are wringing their hands about losing E. Young are idiots, and should be thanking their maker that someone other than themselves is running the team.

Can you say STUPID RANGERS?  This team has blundered all winter long.  A little success and they become the Mets.  There is NO NO NO NO reason to make this trade.  You have a 2nd baseman, a 3rd baseman and a .300 hitter.  Why go get a 2nd baseman a 3rd basemen who both hit .240?  I thought these new Ranger owners were Rich Bi-atch!

I hope the Rockies can wiork something out, without sending Eric Young Jr. to Texas.  I would also hate to see Jose Lopez get dealt since he jsut arrived and has some potential. I think it'd be worth it to trade Aaron Cook and Jose Lopez though. It is hard thoug, because Jose Lopez is making much less than Young and has potential to put up similiar numbers. He is younger too, so he could be a Rockie for much longer. This is a tough one and could go either way for me. Now that I think of it I say trade E.Y. and Aaron Cook.

I dont get why they dont at least consider making him the every day 1st baseman.. He's shown he's capable of changing position and he would be a clear upgrade over chris davis and mitch moreland.. moreland can play some outfield and backup 1st with davis and young can always fill in at 2nd, 3rd or short
