Yankees would sign Washburn

WashburnThe Yankees sure are hoping the good old glory days come back to New York this season.

After importing such '90s and early '00 stars such as Andruw Jones, Mark Prior, Bartolo Colon and Eric Chavez comes word the Yankees spoke to Jarrod Washburn about coming in on a minor-league deal.

As the New York Post adds, talks did not bear fruit, as Washburn is likely looking for something a bit more guaranteed after taking 2010 off. Nothing's surfaced yet, but the Yankees would still be open to adding Washburn if the veteran lefty, who finished fourth in Cy Young Award balloting back in 2002, agrees to come in on a minor-league pact.

Washburn has previously been linked to the Yankees as early as the trade deadline of 2009, when the Mariners instead shipped the lefty to Detroit. The Yankees refused to give up Austin Jackson and another player for Washburn, and later dealt Jackson to Detroit in a package to get center fielder Curtis Granderson.

Kevin Millwood has also been connected to the Yankees, which would be yet another "good old days" star who has tailed off as of late. However, it appears the Indians are the furthest along in signing Millwood.

Maybe GM Brian Cashman can convince Andy Ashby to come to camp.

Yankees would sign Washburn

Am I correct to interpret the meaning of this article is that Yankees will get back to prominence by signing a bunch of oft-injured, aging, no longer effective players. Wow what a great idea! How come more teams don't do it. It's a proven plan of success....no...it isn't.

"Third, I don't need to attempt to draw Yankees fans into a pissing contest, you Yankees fans are too easy to bait.  The mere fact that you wrote this response, and probably broke a few keys on your keyboard while typing it, is evidence enough that Yankees fans whine and cry if everyone (including the media) isn't clamoring over what a great team they are."
I said "2008 says hi" 3 or 4 posts after yours and directly after a post saying the best course of action is to do exactly what they did in 2008, the only year out of the last 16 that they didn't make the playoffs, and also a year the Phillies won the World Series, and you somehow took that to be an attack on the Phillies.
The only reason you would jump to do that is if you wanted to talk about how great your team is, so really you have no leg to stand on calling out Yankees fans for being uppity...

These guys are on a roll. Colon, Prior, Chavez, Freddy Garcia, Andruw Jones, and talking about Millwood and Washburn now. Sox fans are already pre-ordering their 2011 AL East championship gear.

I hear Whitey Ford is available.  Maybe he could be signed to a minor league contract.

Should I assume this was directed at me?  If so, you might want to take another look at history.  The Phillies won the World Series in 2008, they lost to the Yankees in 2009.  In any event, leave it to a Yankees fan to live in the past...it's all you have at this point.  While my team boasts FOUR aces and a good lineup, the Yankees have a load of garbage in the starting rotation and a core that's quickly approaching 40.  Yankees fans can try to make themselves feel better by thinking they have the best lineup in baseball, but they don't even have the best lineup in the AL East.  Furthermore, pitching wins championships (as evidenced by the San Francisco Giants), which is something the Yankees sorely lack.  Enjoy your season though, I'm sure baseball fans will be getting the usual history lesson as the Yankees falter and their fanbase continues living in the 1990's.
Calm yourself.
it was in reply to the guy saying that the Yankees should just go with the young arms, which worked out so well for them in 2008.
try not to be so self important.
