Buehrle is not a Michael Vick fan

Mark Buehrle Count White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle as one person who will not be sending a congratulatory note to Michael Vick for his NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award.

Buehrle and wife Jamie (photo courtesy of The Telegraph of Alton, Ill.) are huge dog advocates. They started a "Sox for Strays" program to support animal rescue groups. They're on billboards promoting pet adoption. In December they volunteered to pay $2,400 in vet bills for a Sheltie found near Buehrle's hometown with an arrow stuck through its abdomen.

So Buehrle isn't ready to forgive Vick's dog fighting history, and made that clear in comments to MLB.com.

"Even if you are not a dog lover, how can you sit there and make two dogs fight and one is going to die?" he said. "How could you do that if you are somewhat sane?

"He had a great year and a great comeback, but there were times where we watched the game and I know it's bad to say, but there were times where we hope he gets hurt. Everything you've done to these dogs, something bad needs to happen to these guys."

Curiously, those quotes, as well as some comments about Vick by Jamie Buehrle, were removed from the story by MLB.com while I was writing this item. But we have the original, the Chicago Tribune reported the excised quote before it was taken down, and the story's author sent the quotes out via Twitter.

Do we really think Vick has changed?  He'd still be doing it if not gotten caught.  Just look at his brother, thugs

You can say that about 99.99999999999999 percent of people convicted of committing a crime, regardless of what that crime was.

You guys live in your own little bubble and have absolutely no life experience that matters... you don't know a thing.   Human beings do stupid things in life... happens all the time.

It takes a person getting caught before they realize how stupid they were and realizing they were wrong.  It's human nature..... most of us don't commit crimes, but some do.   Some of YOU commit crimes yet justify them because YOU think it's ok.

How many of you people smoke pot that's purchased illegally??  I know I know..  you aren't hurting anybody right????  So it's ok to commit a crime, as long as you don't hurt anybody and you disagree with the law???   Gotcha !!!!

Yeah, lining a drug dealer's pockets with money who doesn't pay a penny in taxes and benefits off all other tax payers is cool.....

How many of you gamble illegally???

But yeah,, you don't hurt puppies so you're ok.......  right on.

Don't feel bad about wishing injury when Vick not only wished, but ordered, death. Good for you, Mr. Buehrle for standing up for what you truly believe in! mad respect!!!!HE

Yeah. Because real athletes always hope other athletes get hurt......

Who the hell is he anyway??? Why is he being interviewed?  It's nowhere near April yet...... if he's not on the mound, he's a nobody...

This is how screwed up our society is today.  People are placing animals ahead of human lives and I think that's outrageous.  Where were all these people when Ray Lewis and Donte Stallworth each killed a man?  No where because they don't care about another human.  But kill a couple dogs and the whole world's against you.

Funny isn't it?  They make excuses for people that kill, rape and hurt humans but won't allow a guy like Vick that hurt animals to move on with his life.  People will say Ray Lewis wasn't convicted of killing anybody so he's not guilty.... they forget the only reason 2nd degree murder charges were dropped was because he ratted out his friends....  their excuse for Dante Stallworth is the guy he killed was jay-walking....  forget the fact Stallworth was well over the legal drinking limit....

Vick spends almost 2 years in a federal penitentiary, loses 100 million dollars in endorsement deals, almost every penny he has, almost all of his property and cars.... yet he didn't pay enough for his crime and they can't forgive him...

Weird.

Everyone is free to think what they want. Vick did his time, but for some people, he can't do enough time.
They need to get over it and move on.
The only thing that bothered me in this piece, is the admission by Buehrle in wishing for Vick to suffer an injury.
I don't think I've ever heard one professional athlete say that about another.
That was way over the line.

I can't stand people who still are crucifying Vick.  Yes he made a dumb decision to run a dog fighting ring and he paid his debt by going to prison.  This is how screwed up our society is today.  People are placing animals ahead of human lives and I think that's outrageous.  Where were all these people when Ray Lewis and Donte Stallworth each killed a man?  No where because they don't care about another human.  But kill a couple dogs and the whole world's against you.  Yes, I'm still mad at him in the back of my mind, but at least I can be mature enough to understand that he truely is trying to make amends for his wrongdoings and trying to stay clean.  He's making the right choices by trying to stay away from his old friends and keeping good company around him.  It takes a man to admit his mistakes and try to make things right and Vick has shown that.  This is why he was the Comeback Player of the Year.  If you can't get over it after all this time, then stay away from football because no one wants to hear your crying anymore.

Buehrle is not a Michael Vick fan

Thank you, Mark and Jamie Buehrle!! Vick spent a very short time in prison-he did not undergo a total heart & soul transformation. He still hangs with thugs, his own brother being one. He has done nothing of any substance to redeem himself, only minor lip service.

It's pretty sad and obvious that many folks in this world have never read the words of Ghandi, Albert Schweitzer, and the like of other truly great people. How our civilization treats the innocent and helpless tells what we are as "mankind". Vick has not changed-he is still the same demonic, evil person he was when he tortured and killed innocent animals who could not help themselves. Comparing dogs to people is so stupid. People are able to help themselves and try to prevent such evil and torture from happening to themselves. Dogs and other animals are just like little children-they don't have any way to protect themselves from the demons of this world-the Michael Vicks.

Perhaps many of the folks who favor Vick have never read the story in the Bible of Noah's Ark? Do we really think that God saved all the animal species of His world for no reason?. Oh, btw, in case you don't know the story, God saved only Noah and his family and a female/male of all the animals so they could repopulate the world after the flood. Kind of makes you realize how truly smart God is!!

I'm not a lumpoco fan

First you compare Mark Buehrle to Dallas Braden and Jonathan Sanchez who, combined, haven't even thrown HALF the innings Buehrle has in his career.  Then you go on some tangent about "quantifying" comments from a player in one sport to one in another sport. Buehrle's comments quoted here said nothing about how Vick plays football, he commented on what Vick enjoyed doing in his spare time. What sports they play is completely irrelevant.

So, it's clear to me you had nothing worth saying, you just felt it necessary to defend a pretty crappy human being. Congratulations.
