Latos: 'I hate SF!'

You could say Mat Latos has thrown gasoline on the fire of the rivalry between the Padres and Giants. Or you could say he was having a little harmless fun. Either way, he's got people talking with three baseballs he signed with the inscription "I hate SF!"

The balls are being offered by San Diego's American Icon Autographs, with an eBay "buy it now" price of $299.99. The seller also notes that half the sale price will go to the MLB alumni association, and provides photos of the Padres starter doing the signing. The listing says "Mat signed these baseballs in the spirit of friendly competition with the Padres (sic) NL West rivals the San Francisco Giants."

Predictably, Giants blogs are lashing out at Latos, while Padres blogs love it.

Latos: 'I hate SF!'

Since Latos didn't write 'I hate the SF Giants ', I have to assume he is referring to the City and County of San Francisco.Though given his apparent immaturity (based on his whining last fall) he could also be referring to a hatred of 'Science Fiction'.  If so, it's too bad, because he'd probably get a lot more enjoyment and entertainment out of reading Philip K Dick than he's bound to get watching the Padres fight to stay out of the NL West cellar the next few years.
