Dodgers shirt pokes fun at Angels

Usually the Giants are considered the Dodgers' rivals, but Nike seems to be picking a fight with the Angels… excuse me, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Los Angeles Dodgers of Los Angeles

It's kind of funny (haha funny over LOL funny), but that seems to be a pretty old joke. And SoCal folks, let me know, is there really a rivalry between the two?

bronco-7, I agree with you.  I've lived in inland southern California all of my (over-half-century) life.  I was a Dodger fan because my big brother was an Angel fan.  But with the Angels, all of California had a "home team".  San Fransisco had their team, Oakland, San Diego and LA had city based home teams, too, and the rest of the state could claim the Angels as the state's home team.  Go Gene Autry, Go California.  Then the Angels got schizophrenic.  Why don't they just call them the Disneyland Mice and get it over with.  I think the shirt is very very funny, go Dodger Blue.

I don't get why the Angels did the name change to begin with. It seems like a blatant ploy to try and make a few extra dollars off of the Dodgers merchandising. It was way better when they went with the California Angels, that way if you didn't like the Dodgers it gave you another SoCal team to root for. Now it smells of desparation.

Dodger fan loathing came when the Angels adopted the LA part of the name. Frankly, it's a joke. The could have gone with Anahiem, or just stayed the California Angels, but they decided they wanted LA as part of the name. The name is just stupid. No sports team's name should be that long, and no team should be allowed to change their name to a city they aren't even in.

When they chose to take LA out of their name in '65 it was because they wanted to distance themselves from LA and from the Dodgers. They should have been forced to keep LA out of the name unless they move the team.

Dodgers fans pretty much nothinged the Angels until the Angels won the World Series then the Angels all of the sudden started showing up around the southland.  Their average attendance jumped from 28K in 01 to over 40K after the title.  That wasn't that big of a deal other than Angels fans having recent bragging rights.

But when the Angels went to the LA title that peeved a lot of Dodgers fans.  That crossed into counties.  Dodgers fans were ok with Orange County having a team but not sharing the spotlight.  That was more personal to the LA community.

Either way, if a Dodgers fan were to waste their money on that t-shirt then they're probably under the age of 25 or have no appreciation for the history and tradition of the Dodger Franchise.  Yes, those freeway series games are cute twice a year but really no Dodgers fans should give a crap about the Angels.  The Giants are a will only be the team with traditional hate.  Recently the Phillies have entered the category too.

I just moved to orange county six months ago, and if anything I notice mostly hostility coming from Dodgers fans. There are plenty of people who support both teams, but hardcore Dodgers fans seem to really loath the Angels' existence. Angels fans don't seem to get  so bothered by the Dodgers though (unless Dodgers fans are talking bad about the Angels). Really, I don't think there is as much of a rivalry between the teams as there is between the fans.

Yeah, because we all know the Dodgers are SoCal's original baseball team. Except for the whole being from Brooklyn originally. Last I checked the Halos are the only team to originally call LA and Southern California home,

That is not really the point is it?  Fact is -- pick a freaking name:  California Angels, Anaheim Angels, whatever but the fact is your team is not in LA and "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" is just a ridiculous name....why not go all out "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of California of the United States of America of North America of the Western Hemisphere of Earth" anyone?

The Angels should wear shirts that say "The 2001 World Series Champions of 2001." They have (by far) the most recent world championship of the two teams. And yes, I know how ridiculous this sounds coming from a Cubs fan. You don't have to tell me. Here are some other shirts they might consider:
1. My husband got the house and the dog. I got the Dodgers.
2. Will play for legal fees.
3. Mannygone.
4. It's better in Brooklyn.

Last I checked the Halos are the only team to originally call LA and Southern California home, not those transplants from Chavez Latrine. Hey Nike, why don't you help the McCourt's figure out who owns the Dodgers, rather than bringing up tired old jokes from 6 years ago.
