Longoria to miss 'at least' 3 weeks

Evan LongoriaBy C. Trent Rosecrans

Rays third baseman Evan Longoria is headed to the disabled list with a strained left oblique and is expected to miss at least three weeks, Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times reports.

The Rays have called up veteran infield Felipe Lopez, who is expected to join the Rays in time for today's game. The team will have to make another move to get him on the 40-man roster.

Longoria had an MRI on Sunday morning after leaving Saturday's game in the fifth inning.

"It's just unfortunate," manager Joe Maddon said. "We're having a hard time scoring runs out of the chute. He's probably our best run producer and now we don't have him. We're just going to have to make some adjustments and keep playing."

Sean Rodriguez will likely get most of the playing time at third, with Lopez playing some as well.

Longoria didn't have a hit yet in the team's first two games.

Longoria to miss 'at least' 3 weeks

Not a promising start for the Rays.  Getting swept at home by the O's and losing their best player for atleast 3 weeks.  This coming off an off season where they lost Carl Crawford, Carlos Pena, and Rafael Soriano.  Not looking so great for the Rays after only 3 games.

Longoria to miss 'at least' 3 weeks

0-3 in their opening series at home and losing Longoria.  It is not looking good for the Rays.  Not renewing our season tickets is looking smarter and smarter.  We ended up going to the opener on Friday, just couldn't stay away, but it's looking like it's going to be a long season.
One pleasant suprise, so far at least, is the bullpen.  Cesar Ramos is looking good.  Too eary to really tell. but so far, I'm a fan.
Oh well, like they say, it's a long season and it's not how you start, it's how you finish.

Thanks Longoria. You think you could have strained your oblique BEFORE everyone took you within the first three rounds of their fantasy drafts?
