Two hockey and baseball notes

There are few sporting events I enjoy more than the NHL playoffs, so in that spirit, our folks at the Eye on Hockey blog have two baseball-related hockey notes to share:

• The Phillies' Citizen Bank Park may be next up for the Winter Classic. Although last year's event at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh was considered a success, the NHL prefers the "coziness and layout" of a baseball park for its signature event. The Eagles have a home game on New Year's Day.

• Also, there's a report that former Brave Tom Glavine is interested in putting together a group to buy the Atlanta Thrashers. Glavine was actually drafted by both MLB and the NHL out of high school.

The NHL Playoffs are on a cable channel that a large portion of America doesn't even receive.  Why all the concern over a game that nobody watches.  Put the game in Afghanistan for our troops to enjoy.  Perhaps that would draw interest.  Just an idea.

I didn't know Tom Glavine was drafted in the NHL! That's pretty cool.

I enjoyed seeing all Pittsburghs "best fans" at PNC park last year. I paid $2.00  for a Pirates ticket (this is true) outside the stadium and had a front row seat by the 3rd inning.

1979 Pirates average attendance 17,722     lots of interest there...and thats a world series year.  Check the numbers for your new ball park over the last 10 years......Let the Pirates go they deserve better...

I actually like the Stillers even though they choked this year.

Best Food?  Now thats actually dont get out much do you

Going to be a logistical nightmare.  One thing to consider is that Philadelphia has a sports complex, while the parking is ample for one venue on any given day, it's a complete nightmare for two.  Now, when hockey mingles with one of the other sports, it isn't typically that bad because WFC only holds about 19500 people, while the football and baseball stadiums hold about 68500 and 46500 respectively.  That doesn't include standing room, which adds about 1000 to each venue.  A 1 o'clock game for the Eagles will most certainly take priority over the Winter Classic, and push it's start time back (good for west coasters).  Still, that's a lot of traffic for that area.  While it can certainly hold it, it's just not ideal.

I love having all the venues in one spot, it has a lot of advantages.  Though it's disadvantages are more apparent when those venues play on the same day for big events.

I still think it should be the Leafs and Wings at Michigan Stadium...

All out teams are in the hunt for a championship
That great. You know what else is great? The fact that the never actually win any.

No one cares about the armPIT
Classic. I bet you're the first to think of this.

I was simply saying this is a stupid idea since the Eagles are already playing a game there that day.
