Zack Greinke to start May 4

GreinkeZack Greinke will finally make his Brewers debut on May 4th in Atlanta, the Brewers announced.

Greinke has missed the entire year so far after fracturing his rib after an ill-advised pickup basketball game at the beginning of spring training. Greinke had trouble focusing last season for a team that was down and out, but delivered a 2009 AL Cy Young Award after a sublime season and the Brew Crew is certainly looking forward to Greinke helming the top of the rotation.

Milwaukee is 13-12 entering play Saturday, two games behind the Cardinals. With Greinke now in the fold, the Brewers are a team to be feared. If Greinke can pitch up to expectations, they may end up the team to beat in the division ahead of St. Louis and Cincinnati.

Zack Greinke to start May 4

Well said.  To be fair, Greinke may have spent the 2010 season kicking himself for the long term deal signed before 2009.  I can only imagine how much more money he would have received had he been playing under a 1 year deal that year.  To say a guy making as much money as he does is underpaid is a stretch for me, but $13.5 million for Greinke looks pretty darn good when you think that a guy like Carlos Silva is making in the neighborhood of $12 million to suck it up in the Yankees farm system.

I'd like to see Zack add a few more Cy Young's to his name - I have a lot of Greinke memorabilia from his days in KC. :)

Zack Greinke to start May 4

I can understand the derision of the Royals fans, concerning Greinke. Fans pay good money to see millionaires play their hearts out every day. It's disappointing when one of your top stars phones it in.  Unfortunately, this is the modern sports world where the majority of players see nothing but $$$ signs.  I don't know for sure if that was Greinke's issue. To go from Cy Young to Dennis DeYoung over one season is curious.  Do players on second tier teams need to work harder at getting up to perform?  For the most part, yes. If playing for a contract, that helps. I expect Greinke to do well this year . Probably very well, which will further irk the Royal fanbase.

Being a Brewer fan, I'm excited to see him pitch. But that's the state of the game. Years ago, when the owners held the cards, the players played their hearts out to get a job the next year. Now that mentality is reserved for the hanger ons'. The guys that love the game and will perform day in and day out stick out like a sore thumb. Since the Players Union and agents took over, the game itself is a little harder to love but it is what it is...To single out Greinke misses the point. Lot's of guys sign lobsided contracts and then revert to mediocrity.
It depends on the person to find out what they are made of. I just hope Greinke is grateful to be playing again...We all know he should be but young men with too much money often lose their focus...We shall see.

Good luck Brewers fans.  Greinke definitely has the talent to get the job done IF he decides to show up and play.  I really enjoyed watching him play in KC and he was about the only thing keeping Royals fans interested in 2009.  Last year he just never was in the game.  Hopefully that was a fluke because I really hope to see him play well.

I must say I was at first disappointed to see him leave town.  While I would still like to have him at the top of the rotation, Alcides Escobar has single-handedly won more games with his glove than Zack could have won with his arm.  Jeremy Jeffress is also a lot of fun to watch out of the bullpen and looks like he has the stuff to be a successful big league pitcher.  Haven't seen anything out of Lorenzo Cain yet, but Melky Cabrera is likely to leave after his one year contract so I anticipate seeing Cain in Royal blue next season.  Only time will tell if it was a good trade for either team, but today I feel good about it.  Heck, if nothing else, it got Yuniesky Betancourt out of KC.

I do look forward to watching Greinke play for a NL team because he can hit pretty well.  I remember watching him crush a home run against Arizona in interleague play several years back.  It was an impressive shot - too bad he gave up 9 or 10 earned runs that game.  Anyway, I hope you got the 2009 version of Zack Greinke rather than the unimpressive 2010 version.

Let's hope the real Greinke is back. Not the disinterested Greinke.

Just what the Braves need, a CY Young award winner to face.  They can barely hit a number 3 Little League pitcher at this point.
Man, I wished Grienke would have stayed with the Royals.

I like the fact he is coming back and i agree he is going to help our rotation. But lets wait and see what happens when he pitchs. Im not jumping on the team to beat bandwagon yet.
