Roy Oswalt returned to the Phillies Thursday after a leave of absence to tend to his family in tornado-ravaged Mississippi. He threw a bullpen session to try and work back into shape and initially said it went well. Friday, however, CSNPhilly.com is reporting that Oswalt's back is sore and he appears headed to the disabled list. Kyle Kendrick will start Saturday as the Phillies shuffle things around.

Oswalt did leave a start earlier in the season with a back injury, but made his next start on time and appeared to be fully healthy. He was completely ineffective in his last start -- a three-inning, five-run outing on April 26 -- but it seemed like that was due to being distracted about his family's safety.

He hadn't thrown or worked out at all while being gone for over a week, so it's possible the back tightened up and wasn't in good enough shape to get back on the mound. This isn't anything new on Oswalt's career, as he's had several back issues over the years. Still, he's been durable enough to make at least 30 starts the past seven years.

Oswalt, 33, is 3-1 with a 3.33 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 27 innings this season.

He was also 'ineffective' - sorry, these guys are professional and should do gooder than that
I hope you are being sarcastic with the word 'gooder.'  Otherwise, this is a classic fail.

It is May. As long as he is healthy in August and September/October then I'm not worried. Guess that means Vance Worley is sticking around when Blanton comes back next week. Looks like the Phillies will surpass lasts years 18 guys to the DL, because this year already 8 guys to the DL, and if Ruiz lands on there shortly we are up to 9. Good thing we beat these crappy teams early on.

May and August are the toughest months schedule wise, so hopefully we play a little above .500 during those months.
